I think Matt Rhule gets one more game

This was a match between two not very good teams, a first year coach and someone who looks like it's his first year coaching, two defenses that looked better than they actually are playing against bad offenses built around great runningbacks that they don't use very well.

Overall just a bad game between bad teams who are going to be picking in the top 10 next year and the worst managed team lost.

It was hard watching all the way to the end, but I did and I can't say it was time well spent.

Point is, it really isn't going to get any easier for us. This was probably the most winnable game outside of maybe the falcons this year, and Rhule didn't have this team ready to go and couldn't manage a win against a bad team led by a first year coach.

We've seen what he can't do....win. I think we've seen enough.

Problem is tepper will keep letting Rhule have his way. I just don't see the axe falling any time soon.

These loses aren't because it was a great battle and we played well.  We lost because we look like bunch of guys playing football on a Sunday morning.  There is nothing going right and even with the addition of solid NFL coaches nothing is changing.  This points that Rhule is NOT listening to those around him.

Can him now, put McAdoo in charge and let him use the next 15 games as an OJT interview.

I'm honestly hoping for a L next week. If we win then it only gives Tepper hope that Rhule might turn it around. Please don't delay the inevitable.

looks like 0-7 incoming. Maybe beat the falcons once. 1-17 totally realistic

I seriously doubt he'll be fired that quickly. That would be Tepper outright admitting that everyone was right when they said Rhule should be fired at the end of last season. He doesn't have the humility to do that. I expect Rhule to get fired coming down the final stretch like Ron was.

Of next season, yes.  By then the streak will be around 40.

The rose tinted glasses are off and smashed. And someone pissed on the shards.

I've given Rhule every benefit of every possible doubt because I so wanted this team to be successful. This should not only have been a W. This should have been a blowout. To be 0-2 in the softest part of our schedule is inexcusable.

I'm on the band wagon. Fire Rhule. If we win a game it will be in spite of him not because of him.

It's maddening that were in week 2 and I've already completely lost hope for the season. And I'm as blindly optimistic as they come. You've got to be a special kind of awful to make me start thinking about how we're going to rebuild in the off-season in week 2. And you did it, Rhule. Congrats on achieving the impossible.

I’m not sure he should. This week something has to change. Snow or rhule. One has to go. Preference snow.

I don’t understand the defensive philosophy for the play calls after the Panthers went up by a touchdown. It seemed like the team went in to prevent as if they were up by multiple touchdowns. They should’ve maintained the pressure that they were showing before that touchdown.

If he's canned in season there's no guarantee it gets any better.  All the staff is made up of failed coaches at this level.  Spare me the yeah buts.

This is true. There's a reason the NFL level coaches were available for Rhule to hire.I thought this team might win 7-9 games, but it's looking like they won't win 5.

Oh, and since I'm out of pie, Dessert Pie GIF by Shaking Food GIFs

Im going to scope the tape this week to get a good understanding. I think all 22 is released on Tuesday.

    • Miller being less raw and more pro ready makes sense of why they picked him. With us having a capable starter in Walker the lower floor higher ceiling player makes sense for us as well. I agree with that.
    • I'm from Michigan and have had this discussion with my Lions friends, and they all agree with me, they were never going to take Freeling over Miller.  As, yes, you are correct, they could have left Sewell at RT and taken Freeling, but they are in a SB contention window right now. An OL with Freeling at LT and Sewell at RT is not as strong as Sewell at LT and Miller at RT would be for this upcoming season and likely at least next year as well. 5 years it could be looked back upon as a long term "mistake" to take Miller over Freeling, but for a franchise like the Lions, you can't worry about the long term when you have current SB aspirations.  It's all about maximizing their current SB window over the next 1-3 years. And it's not about style, it's about day 1 readiness, and a lot of "experts" aren't even sure if Freeling is ready to play Week 1 yet at the position he's used to, let alone switching to a side he hasn't played before, but a career starting RT is going to be more than ready to fill that role for them Week 1. I'm 100% convinced that if our draft positioning was swapped, we'd have still taken Freeling, they'd have still taken Miller, and both teams would have got the OT that they preferred due to what each team needs right now and what their current realistic aspirations are for the 2026 season. We're in a position where we can let our drafted OT sit and learn for a bit, they needed a week 1 starter, for me that's where this discussion becomes very easy to understand why each team took the player they did.
