We pretty much have to take a RB on day 2 in the draft, right?

Foreman is not the answer, Chuba shouldn't even be on an NFL roster. RB is a devalued position, yes, but we need a massive upgrade there to have a run game to support our rookie QB. Should be able to get a legit talent on day 2; as someone who doesn't follow college football until the draft gets closer, who are some possibilities? Now that our season is officially over (it was over weeks ago but with the CMC trade it's official) all I really care about is the draft and the search for the next HC. So which RBs should we look out for as possibilities?

Why?

Have you seen some of the names starting and being productive as of late? Investing early draft capital into RB is a mistake for rebuilding teams. Plenty of options either via FA or late rounds.

Dameon Pierce - 4th

Rhamondre Stevenson - 4th

Khalil Herbert - 6th

Jeff Wilson - UDFA

Aaron Jones - 5th

I think Foreman could legitimately hold down the position for another year if need be, provided he protects the ball. He's a 4 ypc back I think, will never be a guy teams fear but he will do what we need him to do, which is be steady. No need to reach for a RB unless there's a can't-miss guy there.

Sean Tucker or Chris Rodriguez in the 3rd would be my preference.

Bijan Robinson in the 2nd if he falls out of the 1st.

While you absolutely can find great running backs in the later rounds (just like every other position in the NFL) it quickly becomes a needle in the haystack and is more the exception than the rule (...like every other position in the NFL) for every Arron Jones there are 10 Jordan Scarlets.

Please stop prioritizing RB's in the draft in any way shape or form. With a quality OL, you can sign a guy off the couch who can get you four yards up the middle.

Pro Bow? No.

What you need from a position that was once key and now matters far less to success than many fans think? Yes.

Draft capital should be prioritized for positions it's difficult to acquire FA talent. Decent FA RB's are a dime a dozen.

I'd consider one in the second or the third the nice thing this class is pretty loaded with Bijan, Gibbs, Tucker, Evans, Corum, Bigsby, Achane, Brown, etc.  You probably can end up getting someone really nice in the late second.  Also am fine just taking shots on guys late and picking up free agents.  Top end RB is more of a luxury in the NFL right now than a requirement.

How many other running backs were drafted in those classes before them?

Ironic that you include Jeff Wilson on here when his team has already drafted 4 running backs in the last 3 years and just sent us 4 more draft picks for ours...

    • I know it's only been training camp and one preseason game, but I think T-Mac has already shown his floor to be exactly what I said about him in the pre-draft process. That his floor if he never improves his game, is as one of the best #2 WRs in the NFL, if not even still a low end #1 (i.e. a 25th-ish best WR in the league). I think it's safe to say he's already established himself as our #1, and there are only a small handful of teams in the league where I don't think he'd be their starting #2 WR in Week 1. Bengals (Higgins), Dolphins (Waddle), Eagles (Smith), Bucs (Godwin if healthy), Rams (Adams) are really the only teams where I think he'd be the #3 as a rookie in Week 1.  A few others like the Lions (Williams), Bears (Odunze), Seahawks (Kupp), Commanders (Deebo), where he'd be the 2b to start the season, just because they're vets and/or already have a year or two of experience with their team/QB. And even having said that, I think by year 2, he's better than every one of those players (And no, I'm not saying he's already going to be better than a prime version of Adams, just whatever he'll be at 33 next year), and same goes for Kupp, but that's more because it seems like his body might be quitting on him in a way that hasn't happened to Adams (yet).
    • Well to be fair, Horn not practicing right now to let his stitches heal up from a car accident isn't something that should be concerning.  Sure, you don't want him missing practice leading into the season, but it's one that once healed, won't have lingering affects or fear of re-injuring it, it was just bad luck.
    • Quality backups are absolutely important. This franchise has been plagued with depth problems. That said, there is a little bit of dismay that Mays can't beat out a 1-legged man, and all the talk going into the off-season was how BC would certainly be gone since he had position versatility.  In the end, it doesn't matter too awfully much, as I would be shocked to no end if Corbett makes it through the season. We know what we have in reserve, and that should surely be better than trying to sign random fat guys mid season to try and take over.
