Panthers are one game out of first place in the NFCS

I've said it over and over.  Tanking is a Fan term not a term players know or use.

We have the best defense in the NFCS.  If we can get some solid offensive play we can beat anyone.

Wilks has this team believing they can compete.  Next week will show whether we are turning the corner or just pulled off an emotional win.

If we win at Atlanta this weekend, then go on the road to beat the Bengals we could be going into our one primetime game of the year with our new helmets and a chance to be at .500. It would be the first time we would have a homefield advantage this year.

Whoever wins this division is going to really fug themselves. The whole division is terrible and needs a QB. Someone is gonna cost themselves 10 spots of draft position just to get their asses kicked in the wildcard round and go down as the worst team to ever make the playoffs.

I hate feeling this way but I agree.   Making the playoffs because everybody else is asscheeks is just hurting us in the long term.

But beating Brady did feel nice.

Winning the division gets us an ass kicking in the playoffs, Wilks as coach,  ben mccado as OC, and a  shitty draft spot

But culture or something.  Beating Brady is fun but looking long term...........

You absolutely could be right.  But the other way to look at it is:

If we win the division, we suddenly become very appealing to a new coach and/or the next great QB dissatisfied with his current team.  Especially considering we basically have two sets of draft picks to work with.

This is certainly a glass-half-full/wishful thinking view when I'm not remotely convinced we can win the division yet.  But, at least for me, that'll give me the reason to root for our guys to win.

And to the OP, yes, it's shocking to be one game out of 1st in nfcs.  Even more shocking to add to it that we are one game out of draft pick #1 AT THE SAME TIME.  And undefeated in our division to boot.

Screwy times.

    • Let’s be real, there’s no way the Bengals can trade him for less than first round value from an optics stand point.
    • Disclaimer:  In June, I am usually optimistic.  In October, a policeman with a bullhorn is telling me that I have a lot of life ahead of me and to think about my loved ones as I gaze down upon him from my rooftop.   Having said that, I think our offense (down the stretch) was good enough to play KC and Philly tough.  So how many games would this offense have won if they played the entire season like they did in November-January and if they had a better defense?   If you could stretch the last nine games over an entire season and put a solid defense on the other side, I see 5 wins becoming 7 or 8.  Down the stretch, the Panther D surrendered 30 points or more in 5 of the final 7 games and managed to win 2 of those 5.  If they can win 40% of games in which their defense surrenders 30 points or more, then the math indicates, had that been the case all season, the Panthers should have won 6 or 7 games with their defense surrendering 30+ points.   This season, we are much better at WR (TMac, Renfrow, Horn, and I expect XL to be a lot better).  Bryce is confident and now a leader.    The Achilles' heel of the 2024 defense, the DL, seems to be very solid.  We got back Horn and Jackson on the corners, Smith-Wade is improving better than expected, we signed a stud Safety.  Derrick Brown returns.  While the D is not there yet, it is going to be better.   So if we ended the second half of 2024 playing at a level that should have produced 6-7 wins, better WRs and a better defense could result in 9 wins or more.
