HOT TAKE Jaycee Horn isin't a shutdown corner

Shut down corners are unicorns, nearly myths. There may be one or two in the league at any given time.

There are a handful of excellent corners who can work in zone or man, quietly sealing off a portion of the field and erasing a part of the opposing team's game plan. Chris Gamble, back in the day, was the silent assassin doing that work and getting little praise for it. Jaycee ain't far from that and he's still learning.

I'm not worried about Jaycee in the least. I'm actually enjoying how he is developing AND showing out at the same time. Good young man, good player. Glad we've got him.

In my honest opinion Jaycee isn't a shutdown corner and the Panthers actually HIDE him when it comes guarding the best players on the other team CONSISTENTLY he never does it! It's like the team saw all the PFF praise he was getting and made sure to show the NFL hey look we got something right!! Guy just doesn't do it for me

It should be obvious to everyone that you don't watch much football or you would not make such a profound and misguided statement,

I just spoke to Jaycee's mom on the phone and she said he is in fact a shut down corner...  Stafford's dad was busy....

Fun fact.

here is a screen shot of me and Joe Horn talking on a zoom call today.  He too said Jaycee is a shutdown corner.  I don't know why he was wearing a helmet today.  He sillier than you would think.

    • not sure if any of this is news, but a good summary of our situation heading into training camp.  It's sure gonna be good getting Derrick back. After missing virtually all of the 2024 season, Panthers defensive tackle Derrick Brown is aiming for a full return to the field during training camp later this summer, per Joseph Person of The Athletic. Brown tore his meniscus in Week 1 and underwent season-ending surgery that has kept him limited through spring practices, though he did participate in “walk-throughs and light side work” during mandatory minicamp, according to Person. Brown originally stated a desire to be ready for the 2025 regular season, but his timeline appears to have moved up. Brown’s injury was particularly disappointing after a career-best 2023 season. He led all defensive linemen with 103 total tackles and was named to his first Pro Bowl, earning him a four-year, $96MM extension from the Panthers in April 2024. While he has never been a prolific pass rusher, Brown’s size and power has consistently commanded double-teams and created opportunities for his teammates. His impact was evident last season, as Carolina’s run defense ranked dead-last in his absence. The Panthers spent significant resources this offseason on defensive line depth, which should allow them to manage Brown’s usage more carefully coming off a major injury. He played a whopping 940 defensive snaps in 2023 (89% of the team’s total) and was on the field for almost every play before his injury last year. With new teammates Tershawn Wharton, Bobby Brown III, and Cam Jackson ready to share the load, Derrick Brown can take a lower snap share to stay fresh and healthy for the entire season. • Yeah it's kind of like they don't want him on the team anymore for some reason
