I’ll get flamed but the wilks obsession has a race element to it. Already seeing the comments on social media about it. They hired the best person for the job. Period.

That’s all people are saying on WFANZ.

Honestly, who has the best resume to bring along a rookie QB?

Why would he telegraph his intentions to the other 31 teams in the league? I hope he's smarter than that.  He should just give vague answers like BB and look at everyone in the room like he's going kill them in their sleep.

Agree.  I'm thinking Reich may be less inclined to take Anthony Richardson than some of the other candidates.  Hasn't he always had drop back passers rather than ROP types?

It's not hate for Wilks. Wish him the best and appreciate what he tried to do. But have you seen the OUTRAGE that he wasn't hired? That's what I hate. It's irrational.

If you are looking for rational in the comments brother you are sadly mistaken.

Wish Wilks the best. The couched hate for that man is on par for the huddle.

From who though? Probably two or three who legitimately don't like him personally or other. Rivera had cancer and still some people here despised him. Truthfully there were times some could have suggested bigotry toward him was a factor. But I don't recall ever seeing it. Regardless I wish Steve the best. But I think and hope we made the right choice in changing direction.

Am I the only one both really happy for Reich but also really depressed for Wilks? Being in his shoes I'd feel terrible right now.

100%.

From a humanitarian standpoint, I feel the same.

As a Panthers football fan, I'm happy for Reich and think he will be the better hire of the two.

Now..... go get Bradley or Fangio for DC, bring in a competent OC, sign Brissett this offseason and find your QB1.

    • I’m not mad at Moehrig.  He’s great at what he does.  And to be honest, a lot of my favorite safeties in our history were box-first type guys - Maxie, Minter, Mike Mitchell, Chris Harris…  they’re first and foremost objective was to put people on their backs and coverage was secondary.  There is a place for that.  There is a definite need for that.  Physical guys that set the tone.  So cool, we have that in Moerhig. But what we have lacked for the vast majority of our existence is a true free safety that cleans everything up on the back end.  Sometimes they come in the form of a JOAT, like Peppers.  I think he would be a fantastic compliment to Moehrig’s strengths and weaknesses.  If we don’t go after him, I certainly hope Ransom is given the chance to grow and develop in real-time with real game reps, because what he did in preseason was very encouraging to see.  I hope he can grow into that roaming center fielder with a little bit of an edge to him as an enforcer as well.  He has the tools.  In the meantime, adding Peppers would only help.
    • Option 1 is most likely. Even if he kills it this year, it wouldn't be prudent to rush an extension for one good season. If you have to pay him more because you waited another year, then he earned it. And that's OK. Adjust accordingly.
    • Cam had the advantage of having a very strong supporting cast his first 2 seasons. Things definitely worsened later on. But those first couple of years can kill a QB. Some never truly recover. If they do recover it takes years, and usually with another team. Trying to learn to be an NFL QB with TEs and WRs that are trying to learn too is a recipe for disaster. Imagine if Cam's rookie season was that 2014 offensive squad. Changes everything! I said it when they moved up in 2023. This team wasn't ready for a rookie QB yet. Anyone that thinks Stroud would have been a lot better is delusional. The correct formula is to build a strong team and then you go get your rookie QB. Not the other way around. BY is going into his third season and we're still trying to put a respectable group of WRs and TEs around him. I think they have the right personnel now. Unfortunately they haven't developed into actual NFL players yet.  This season we should expect consistency and aggressiveness from BY. Mostly for his development but also to DEVELOP his young cast.
