When the time comes you either take the risk or you play it safe. We've seen the results with bringing in other teams leftovers. Try a different approach.

We're getting leftovers from somewhere. Our most seasoned QB going into 23 is not going to be Matt Corral. It all depends on cost, picks and salary.

Reich will most likely try a different approach.   One of those ways is bringing in a better veteran QB.

Well we can't be afraid of developing a young QB. Matt Rhule was. But we've got decades of wisdom on staff now. Chasing discarded veteran QB's should be the last resort for such a seasoned staff we've built.

Carr would be a top 3 QB in the conference,  the team definitely needs to go get their own guy but if there’s a scenario where they can rent him and still draft a guy it’s worth sticking your toes in the water on

Would rather make the big play to move up for their guy but I could understand sticking your nose in, at least if for no other reason than to drive the asking price up for new orleans

You aren't signing Carr then drafting a first round QB in 2023.

He's 32 in March - he gives you 4 years of high level play to find your franchise QB. It's a no brainer if he's interested.

Agree. If Reich ends up being the guy, Carr would be our Alex Smith. 3 years or so to right the ship and then we make a big reach for a QB down the road.

I’m not exactly sure how I feel about this. I think he’s a guy who could be a high level starter for another 2-3 years. Would you draft a raw Richardson to sit behind him or would you move towards another position of need? Next year’s crop of QB’s are good as well. Hence why I’m not exactly sure where I am with all of this.

REALLY good.  I'm down with a 2-year rental.  I'd rather go a cheaper route though, Minshew.

Yeah, I see this point, but Carr would not be the franchise QB--he would be the bridge--I get the feeling that they would still be in the market for a young QB this year or next.

And maybe they think they can get Darnold (if they re-sign him) playing at a decent level---I dunno.

I still think we draft a Young QB this year.

However, signing Carr and keeping your draft picks is a bit appealing---considering who we'd end up with at #9.

With a Carr and this staff, I could see us drafting next year in the 16-24 range. Or we better be if we are dropping $40 million on a QB.

Anyway, how are we getting from 16+ to #1 overall? Especially when 9x out of 10 the #1 pick needs a QB and ain't budging.

If we are drafting a QB, if we want to trade up and want our pick of the class, this is the only year to do that. Otherwise we are moving up to 8-10 to grab someone that falls. I really, really do not see us picking in the top 10 next year.

    • Malcom Spence is the best player remaining, hope he’s there.
    • The era that you played in, and, more importantly, who you played with actually matters. Honestly, that's why these issues will be debated forever, as it's just difficult to say that this person or that person is better when you're discussing the passage of time. As for me, after Rice, Moss and maybe Megatron and T.O., there's probably a dozen or so guys that can be argued about to the cows come home. Personally, I'm not putting Fitz, Harrison, Johnson, Evans, or especially D-Hop, Jefferson, Chase or Hill definitely in front of Smitty (and Colston ain't even in the discussion). Context and all that stuff actually matters. Things like the triple crown matter.
    • Some of those guys? Yeah honestly you can.  I would 100% take Steve Smith over Larry Fitzgerald, Harrison, even Mike Evans. He is 100% a better player than those guys in his prime. If you look at the numbers Smith is historically under targeted in comparison to his contemporaries. He was only targeted 150 times or more only once in his career. Fitzgerald for example was targeted well above that 9 different seasons. Had Smith played with Peyton, Brady, Greatest Show on Turf, or even with Warner in Arizona he would broken records. His 2008 season was ridiculous accumulating 1400 yards in 13 games on less than 80 receptions. All time he also lost a season due to injury in 04, barely played WR as a rookie. Got robbed of 1k season with Clausen. Thats easily another 1800yds minimum that should have been tacked on to his #s. The only guys I’d say for certain are better than Smith are Rice, Moss, TO, Megatron, Julio Jones, Antonio Brown.
