Bryce Young might not be able to see over the offensive lineman’s hip pads.

So what if he plays with an offensive line that isn't one of the best. Also NFL defenses are different than anything he's ever faced. I don't feel comfortable having a QB that size in the NFL regardless of how well he can throw the ball. But if he falls to 9, I guess you have to take him. That won't happen though

If he's still on the board after the 4th pick, you go get him.

How often do we even see QBs line up under center these days? If you see a QB under center it's probably a QB sneak.

it has been less and less of an issue over the years. even when we drafted Cam many teams were spending more than half of their snaps from the shotgun or pistol and since then that has become much more commonplace.

@Jon Snow is right, though, that it will limit a bit what the offense can do. i just don't think that it will be enough. good OCs will make it work around any limitations.

all that said...i think that young will be a fun QB to watch on someone else's team. he'll be good, but i wouldn't want to bank on him staying healthy all season every season or having a long career. dude makes me nervous. i'm not worried about batted balls from him. i'm worried about him getting squashed and mangled.

Alabama probably has the closest thing to an NFL strength and conditioning program outside of the NFL. Brees was 213 at the Combine.

So if "the closest thing to an NFL strength and conditioning program outside of the NFL" didn't think it necessary for him to bulk up more then what's the issue? Unless you're saying he physically can't gain 15 pounds worth of muscle, which I find unlikely.

Also this hallowed strength and conditioning program produced the dad bod having Mac Jones as well.

That's what he's saying, and he's probably right.

I think the public/draftniks look at that more than most teams. It really depends on what kind of system you are trying to run.

There is a long history of very successful sub-6 foot QB's. Including a couple of HOFers.

As many have pointed out, one of the leaders in batted balls was Josh Allen. Batted balls is less about height and more about awareness.

But, I sincerely hope the slide to 9 is related to frame and not playing ability. I would be all over that.

Agreed. College players are more or less the same “heights” as pros and he’s excelled. He’s got a magic to him. Also seems like he could be our “brand” player that we haven’t had since CMC* and Cam.

Between Bryce Young's size concerns, CJ Stroud's difficulties with handling pressure while throwing to future NFL Pro Bowlers, Will Levis' inability to take over a game at the college level, and Anthony Richardson being the metaphorical equivalent of a ball of clay... this place is going to be a sea of tears when the draft comes.

Kind of hoping that they take Bijan Robinson at #9 just to watch the world burn 😛

About 1/4 to 1/3  of the time teams line up under center.  And it isn't usually a qb sneak but it is a running play. The question actually would be whether you would pass when under center to confuse the defense or mostly run the ball like most teams under center which telegraphs it is a run to the defense. I suspect he would only pass out of the shotgun like he has at Alabama.

He's strictly a system qb. You will have to play him in the Shotgun every snap. Don't believe me? Check the tape.

Have you watched the tape? One of his greatest abilities is pocket awareness and his ability to be creative when the pocket/play breaks down. Bama is Bama, but their playmakers and Oline is a far cry from what it usually is. Sure, their offense is QB friendly, but he made a TON of off-script plays that were unbelievably special this year.
