    • Trade up to #1 & draft Bryce (uncomfortable amount of capital)
      5
    • Trade up to #3 & draft Stroud (uncomfortable amount of capital)
      13
    • Trade up to #5 & draft Richardson (uncomfortable amount of capital)
      4
    • Stay at #9 & draft Levis
      3
    • Take BPA at #9, #39 and draft Hooker at #61
      27

When you dismiss a player as a gimmick or system QB, you're the same person who would never have drafted Mahomes.

I'm not saying that Hooker is the next Mahomes, I'm just saying that it's a weak argument.  You have to come up with actual "flaws".

With Hooker, it's hard to spot them.  The only one I can really find is that his offense doesn't have very many opportunities for anticipation type throws.  But he reads the field.  He makes all the throws.  His mobility is focused on continuing to look downfield.  He's played more than one year, against good competition.  He's improved every year.

I like him a lot.

One of the knocks on him is he doesn't read the field

It all depends on how the coaching staff feels about his ability to develop. I actually trust this brain trust to choose a QB that's right for the system they're trying to build. I'd really like to get a top tier TE in this draft if possible. That's one of the positions we're really missing and it can be such a weapon. Kelce, Andrews, Gronk, Waller, Kittle, have all shown how important it is to have that big safety net.

There are reads.  They aren't as common because the wide splits and option / choice routes in that offense mean that he's more often "reading" his receiver.  But it's there.

The age thing is overblown imho. Most QBs bust anyway, so if it's a choice between a younger bust or a slightly older draft steal, I'll take the latter.

Granted we don't know how any of the QBs will play out, but if the staff thinks he's worthy AND we can get him without loss of important assets, then that's a no-brainer.

I mean if you get 10 great years out of a QB you draft, you take that all day every day.

😗  nice.  But because that one time we drafted a 30-year old rookie QB we need to make a rule never to draft a QB over the age of 23....

Like I said, even at 26, he can play through 2 contracts and that is what Cam did--he is mature, a leader, and will not cost us a first rounder and a second (probably) to secure Levis or Richardson.

It is hard to gauge talent at QB, so I never pretend to act like I know more than my plan.  My plan would be to trade back in round 1, grab a TE and then grab Hooker in round 2.

And he doesn't even turn 26 until next year.  He's 25 for the 2023 season, Levis will be 24.  He's older than ideal, but far from Weinke-tier.

Hooker seems like a really smart guy.  That should play in his favor.  He also takes care of the ball.

Everything I've read translate to him being smart, and also smart in a football way.  That 5 interception number just keeps popping up.

Don't get me wrong, I don't want Hooker drafted as the only answer we have to look at, but if he is there at 61, I'm inclined to pull the trigger and say "thank you sir, may I have another."

yeah.  If we wanted a QB that doesn't read the field, we would've re-signed Sam....

Wait....

Why's the Jaws theme playing?   😬
