Why Bryce young will be the pick and we should be excited

Recommended Posts

Wilson and Brees were short but both were stocky and well built. Bryce is short and small. Alabama has a world class weight training facility. If they had years with him and he is still 180 to 185, that's who he is. He is too small for a long career in the NFL and that gamble would kill Carolina for years. We are going to take stroud.

Stroud's offense was not as challenging,

I don't know what you're basing this on.  Ryan Day runs a pass-first, pro-style, offense.  Day was previously a QB coach in the NFL.  A lot of of NFL teams would LOVE for Day to be their OC or even head coach.

Frame concerns are valid I'm but tired of hearing about height. Been proven time and time again here that it doesn't matter.

I wouldn't say that height "doesn't matter" but it's evident that some short quarterbacks can achieve a high level of success in the NFL.

I get the thought process but everytime stats are brought into it they don't correlate with what everyone keeps assuming. Like if anything it's the taller guys who tend to get their passes batted. Probably because unlike a short QB, they've never had put as much thought or work into their verticle placement so they get lazy at times.

Would things have been easier for Steve Smith if he was six inches taller? Sure, but it was never a problem because he worked with what God gave him and overcame the disadvantage by being great.  Young's height is part of his game for better or worse and he's the top prospect anyway. He's already overcome it and we're still acting like he's going to get every other pass batted down. Pros aren't that much taller than college players.

It's going to be Stroud or Richardson, and you should also be excited

Young has great intangibles, but just not the body to hold up to the punishment he's going to get in the NFL , Cam was a linebacker and RB in a QBs Body, and he didn't have a long career, how do you expect someone with body type of a kicker to survive one season

I actually think Young will fall way down in the draft because of it

So over the next 40 days, I think that is the area of these QBs that will be measured--processing

This.  There is also one other (intangible) factor that is not frequently mentioned: leadership.  Some people have it within them, others don’t.  It is almost impossible to define and measure but, you know it when you truly see it.  It is much more than swagger and bravado.

If one of these two young men has both processing and leadership traits, pick him.

    • Weird comparison. Nobody said Richardson is Cam Newton. He just has some of his traits.   Cam was arguably the most dominating college player in history. He really was a man amongst boys.
    • He didn't say be would be linebacker. He said he would play closer to the line and mentioned working with  Cooley who is the defensive backs coach.
    • A good game to watch is the game vs Tennessee. I think he threw about 50 times. That game shows his full skillset positive and negative traits. He throws from within and outside the pocket - short, intermediate, and deep passes. Also, I recommend Josh McCown's analysis of Young's game against LSU. It's about 25 minutes long but he goes in-depth on 10 throws Young made in the game   My take on Young is he can play well from within and outside the pocket. As a playmaker, he has a tendency to overextend plays or look for the home run instead of simple completion. This was more pronounced in his 2022 season as the talent level at the receiver position at Alabama this year was lackluster compared to their previous 5 years. Stroud is a prototype pocket passer that stays on script and in rhythm. I think he is a good prospect at QB. Like some posters, my only concerns are adjusting to a receiving core in Carolina or Houston as I don't believe he will go past 2 that are inferior in talent at WR compared to what he had at OSU, along with building off his performance against Georgia where he used his legs more.
