Why not both?

I like Thielen as he'd be a good slot safety valve for a rookie and would be a great vet presence in the WR room to teach these guys how to be pros, particularly TMJ and whichever WR we draft in the 2nd.

But I just don't see the need for Chark, he's similar to TMJ and very injury prone, just not someone I'd like to see us target as I don't think he brings enough value to us right now.

Thielen slot possession guy, TMJ outside clasher and Chark deep threat they would all have their roles

If we trying to sign both why not just go after a true #1 like Hopkins?

Then we really in business.

I’m sure I’m in the minority but Hopkins scares me more than Chark due to age and injury history alone. I’m not sure he would want to come here at this stage of his career and a rookie QB but that’s just my speculation.

I'm a BIG fan of Thielen.  I think tales of his lost step are overstated.

Yes, he's not his 26 year old self, but the guy still maintained his WR2 status in a year where Osbourn was supposed to start taking a big increased load and JJ's targets continue to go up as a league wide superstar. I would love to see him somehow be that leader vet receiver that supports and mentors up an entire group under him.  He could set up a great legacy move for him if he is the leader for a young offense like the one we're putting together.  Get him for his late career for a few years, he can sign/retire a Vike down the road.

Sure hands for a guy that can get open quick is a perfect vet.

Chark is a good upside gamble because when he does play, he's a solid X receiver.  TMJ can be flanker.  I'm unsure if Chark signs here though, but would be optimistic about it if it happens.

Them combined would open things up not just positionally, but in receiver type.  Could take anyone from Mingo to Scott to Downs with that type of group.

    • CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Carolina Panthers coach Dave Canales said Friday that starters will play in the first two preseason games, stopping just short of admitting he made a mistake last season holding them out. The plan includes playing quarterback Bryce Young, who got off to a historically bad start to the 2024 regular season that got him benched after opening 0-2. Carolina opens their preseason schedule Friday at home against Cleveland, followed by an August 15 road game at Houston and August 21 home game against the Pittsburgh Steelers.   Canales said he will evaluate after the first two games whether starters will play in the third game. "Kind of going through it last year, we had a mix of veteran players, but [this is] predominantly a pretty young team,'' said Canales, who has at least six new starters to the defense that was the worst in the league a year ago. "I just can't pass up the opportunities. The reps in games are valuable. "[But] it goes to the night before, when guys know they're going to go out there, they've got to make a decision to play football. So it starts the night before with the prep. You start thinking about your plan, taking care of your body, making sure you get your rest.''   https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/45880676/panthers-starters-play-first-2-preseason-games-says-coach
    • You call the Cowboys purely for information, but we don't have the assets to pull off any realistic trade. Also, even if they would consider any trade, it's more likely they want to do it with an AFC team.
