He'd be a great pick at 39.  There is a large chunk in the 25-50 range I think will be perfect for us to find a great fit.  This draft is not star top heavy, but the first round grades continue into the 40s IMO.

EDGE wise, here's one of the higher upside guys.  Fringe 1st eval, but likely a 2nd rounder.

Def like the upside and what I've seen in higlights of him. His RAS score and combine did not help his case, but is quite young for this draft class having just turned 21.

His brother is solid for the Giants.

He should be in the conversation for sure. I still think a top-notch CB or one of Myers/Kincaid/Washington falls to 39.

Can he play WR?

Honestly, short of every possible WR who could be drafted in that range already gone, I really won't be happy with any other position in the 2nd, it's by far our weakest position right now (assuming you don't count QB of course), which is not a great situation for a rookie QB to step into.

I wouldn't be angry about it. But I'd prefer another WR at 39. Of all our current receivers can we say any of them give you real confidence they will be available 17 games? Thielen is 33 TMJ has dealt with injuries recently ditto Shenault and Shi Smith. That leaves Chark who is possibly walking around on borderline glass ankles.

    • Damn I liked A'Shawn too. This is basically a heads up we're planning on cutting you move.  Robinson wasn't the best but I loved his attitude and effort on the field. He held that entire dline together when Brown went down iirc..granted we finished that season as the worst rushing defense in modern NFL history.  If Wharton would have performed up to atleast half of his salary last season, I'd feel a little better about it. We do need that cap space though.

They made the playoffs, but they're not yet knocking on the door. (Offense was 26th in EPA/play.) I think it's imperative they don't overestimate where they are in their build. They can't throw a ton of money around in FA to "make a run now". They need to be intentional about building a solid foundation. (IMO) And from what I know about the team... I think they will be. Sidenote: I have my eye on offense there, not defense. They HAVE to leave next season with a strong opinion on Bryce Young. They need to put pieces around him to do that. Can't be left wondering what he would have looked like with "better OL play" or "more pass catchers". They have to know. (That part is purely my opinion. No one told me that.) https://x.com/lindsay_rhodes/status/2027212533417869499?s=46&t=xeIgh_-Vr2aKxBkBJdfnKA
    • Because this DL is completely reliant on Brown being available and being a stud. Without him we were the worst D in history. The Wharton signing last year reeked of desperation. He just isn't a great fit for us schematically and I think we panicked a little bit when we missed out on Milton Williams who would have been a great fit.
