Corral deserves a fair shot

Who would be the 4th QB 👀

I can only say who it won't be......pretty much anybody who wore a Panther jersey prior to this year.

Whether we are going to carry two or three, we are pretty much in a textbook scenario.  We have a first round draft choice penciled in as a starter, a vet who realizes his starting days are behind him but can still contribute, and another young guy who may be able to work into being the backup.

Ideally, we would have a better idea who Corral is, but you-know-who torpedoed that idea.

Now we need to break from our tradition and not stop.  If Corral suddenly looks like he could start, find out what someone would trade for him after this season or next (while still on his rookie deal), sign another "past his prime" vet, and draft another potential #2.

If Corral winds up having been Rhuled out of any hope, the plan is the same without the trade unless there is somebody out there who believes otherwise of him.

All that assumes Young will live up to his billing, but I think we can say his approach is a lot more like Peyton Manning than Jamarcus Russell, so we can run with the assumption until proven otherwise.

Anyone rooting for a guy on our roster to fail should be ignored.

Saying he has a low chance of success is fine and realistic.

Actively shitting on the guy, hoping he is cut…mouth breather thinking.

The better he is, the better our team is. We have insurance if Young goes down and/or we have a guy to trade for assets if he succeeds.

This is the proper thinking.  Corral has many tools that could help him succeed in this league.  Rhule did us no favors last year by ignoring his chance and put him on the field without much opportunity for success.

My hope is that he earns a spot on this team and becomes a viable backup to Young.  We hope Young never gets hurt but he's not invincible to injury.  It will be nice to know if something did happen to Young we aren't scrambling again for a QB.

Many of you know I have been a supporter of Corral. My reasoning is I believe he has all the tools to be successful in the NFL. I believe with proper coaching he'll be a solid backup and as you said hopefully good enough that when the time comes, we can get some value out of him.

The only sane answer here is to put Corral on the field this offseason and let him compete.  There is literally zero down side to that.  What if he beats out Young or just looks like a quality QB?  No!  I don't think it's likely!  Completely unlikely.  However, what if he did?

You can instantly recoup some draft capital for whichever QB you choose to offload.  Brock Purdy just showed us that no one has any clue about QB's.  If you have a young, relatively proven guy you can get capital for him.  How much do you think the 49ers could get for Purdy once he proves his elbow is healed?

There is absolutely no reason to get rid of Corral, and every reason to cheer him on.  No one knows the outcome, and success can only benefit the team.  Where is the problem?

fair shot to do what? Be the 3rd QB?

I mean, yeah.

What's to say that he doesn't do well enough to beat out Dalton for the #2 spot.  Dalton is going to get his money regardless. I think he'll be here for the 2 years on his contract.  There is nothing wrong with him mentoring both Young and Corral.

I believe Young is going to be awesome, but I am worried about his ability to stay healthy.  He has, or as they have said, great presence in the pocket but what happens when some LB destroys him.  Will he get up or end up injured for a week or two.  Can he withstand a 17-game schedule without getting hurt?

If Corral, shows he can manage this team it only helps us.  I think I'd rather have a young QB than Dalton.

I would not be surprised if by the end of the season Corral is #2.

    • Ehh NYR had more scoring opportunities and Florida is healthy with an elite net minder. Only fault I have on Rod is his goalie decision. At some point, the players deserve some balme.
    • I went to McDonald's at lunch got a combo for $12. It was ok. The next day I ordered lunch from Cracker Barrel got the broccoli cheddar chicken, steak fries, and 2 biscuits paid $12 with tip. Guess which was better.
