The contract keeping the Carolina Panthers in Charlotte ended Friday.

That doesn’t mean the team is preparing to find a new home, but the penalties Panthers owner David Tepper would face for relocating the team are now substantially less.

The City of Charlotte and the Panthers signed their current agreement in 2013. There were several tethers keeping the team in Charlotte that lasted until the end of the 2022 season. Now the team wouldn’t face any penalties for moving.

A Tepper Sports and Entertainment spokesperson and a spokesperson for the City of Charlotte provided statements in the current negotiations and commitment to keeping the team in the Queen City.

TSE Spokesperson - “The Carolina Panthers and Charlotte FC are integral to the fabric of Charlotte and the Carolinas. Bank of America Stadium serves as a community asset that delivers world-class sports and entertainment to the area and we are proud to be a primary driver of economic development in uptown Charlotte and throughout the region.”

City of Charlotte Spokesperson - “Tepper Sports and Entertainment have proven their commitment to Charlotte over the years by investing in our communities and bringing Charlotte FC to our city and making upgrades to Bank of America stadium. The Teppers and their organization have been outstanding allies, with investments in Charlotte that reach far beyond the field. We are optimistic about the future of our partnership”

Had not heard anything about this.  Don't think they are going anywhere just an interesting little tidbit of news.

No way the Panthers leave Charlotte. The NFL needs a team in our market. Charlotte is the biggest city on the east coast between Atlanta and DC. Big media market overall. 0.0% chance they leave anytime soon.

Meh, not really.  The NFL wouldn't suffer much if the Panthers left.

The real question is where else would they go.  Almost any place they would move would be a smaller market.

Most likely scenario is that they stay in BOA for a while.  Another scenario is that they stay in the Charlotte area, but build a stadium outside the city.  The odds of them leaving this area entirely are slim, but if some city makes an stupid offer, its not impossible.

Yea i think there is a very low chance they move but the tse spokesman quote doesnt sound that great.  They say nothing about what the city of Charlotte or the state of nc offers them.  Only what they offer the city.  They are definitely trying to drum up some big tax dollars.

    • Gronk is the best TE of all time, but he also played with Brady. Clarke was great, but had Peyton and in an era TE's didn't make crazy money. Kittle is great, but the two times he's made the SB, he was still on his rookie contract for one, and the other the 49ers had Purdy on a cheap rookie deal which help them build the rest of the roster. So again, it's not about not wanting an elite TE, of course it would be nice.  But realistically, in today's NFL, unless that elite TE with a top end TE salary is on a team with a GOAT level QB and/or other serious cap savings (i.e. key players on rookie deals), then I think it's not a good use of cap space.
    • This place was the poo pre tepper with tons of hilarious posters like phillyB. Joined in the 2000s during the 07 season and have been here bitching about this team since. but yeah its sadly been dying a slow death, every time I come to this site I am surprised its still up. I think the 2015 season was the absolute peak, the Panthers and this board especially just haven't "felt" the same since then. Igo should really sell the board since he clearly doesn't care anymore. Also, Reddit blows and the Bryce defenders on there need Jesus.
    • Guessing the price is too rich here given the injury history.  2024 was brutal and production dropped off in 2025 with a few more injuries (albeit rough qb play).    Don’t really understand the narrative that Young can’t benefit from talented upgrades on offense. Especially here with respect to a tight end. Any QB will benefit from talented receivers that threaten the top of coverage and tight ends with skills to stress zone.    The age and injury history, coupled with what he’s likely asking, just probably means we can better spend that money elsewhere.
