And other counter, we get a Vet and then draft a rookie DE. We all know rookie DEs take 2-3 years till they hit their stride. By that time, the vet we picked up is no longer here and the rookie is about to hit a contract year and we are back to where we are now. And this is all assuming that rookie is good enough and worth it.

Yeah plus they were future 1st rounders I believe so 24 and 25. Throw in the fact it can take players several years to blossom in the NFL if they even do at all. I think Fitt knew we would have a QB on a rookie contract for the next 4-5 years so the future picks aren’t as attractive as an immediate impact pass rusher like Burns. We can afford to pay our premium positions until Young’s next contract so that’s the route we went.

Yes lets trade a premier edge rusher while we are searching for another edge rusher opposite of him so that now we have to find 2 edge rushers with no guarantee of getting the same value in return.

Better than overpaying for an Edge that gets all of his "12.5" sacks in garbage time and disappears/misses key tackles when it matters most. I'd take my chances on a young guy with a high motor on a rookie contract for 5 years than I would bet on Burns to become a well rounded DE worthy of a $100+ mill contract. He is literally Mario Addison just 4 years younger.

Getting rid of Burns would be like letting Julius Peppers walk.  No franchise would be that dumb...

Most of Carolina's elite edge rushers (Johnson, Rucker, Hardy) aside from Peppers did very little until year 3.  Burns is 25 and we are about to see 4-5 elite years of a premier edge rusher entering his prime.  A top edge makes your DBs better and allows for average edge rushers to benefit from a lack of attention.

This forum is the only place on the internet you’ll find people say that burns isn’t worth the big contract.

It really is remarkable how Reddit & Discord realize it but the Huddle is still 50/50 on the situation

I suspect most are gonna be surprised by how big the Burns contract is. I would be surprised if he isn't a top 3-5 paid DE. He definitively hasn't played that way but we basically showed our hand when the info about the Rams trade leaked. The fact that we turned down that haul means he is going to get basically whatever he asks for eventually.

Our best hope is that he is a little bit nice to us but I won't blame him for demanding a top 3 DE contract.

Wasn’t that trade for 2 1sts and a 2nd next year? That’s a haul, man.

I’m done being upset over it, but Burns really needs to become a game-changer for us

If we judge him by that price tag, he will need to be a truly elite pass rusher. All Pro/DMVP caliber guy.

I also don't think that's particularly fair. He didn't turn down that trade our FO did.

If he can settle into being a consistent top 10-12 pass rusher in the NFL, that's still exceptional value for where we actually drafted him.

Oh man this forum is just f-150 town isnt it? You have Nfc execs saying Burns is just as good as Bosa but plays for a poo team with no help aside from Derrick Brown and no offense to help him getting into obvious passing situations and thats not enough for these people.

for what its worth, Bosa had identical stats to Burns when he played tampa, difference being that Bosa had a much better game script than Burns and still produced the exact same

Oh well alls well that ends well. At least the FO understands value and knows that Matt fuging Rhule is the last person to use to evaluate a premium player.

I hope you bring that same energy when you hear what we pay him.

This forum is the only place on the Internet where the readers have probably watched every play of his career and said, "Man, he's really good, but is he great?"

I'm not saying he's bad by any means, or even average, I'm just saying he hasn't been busting up the opposing team like we've seen other great DEs do in the past. Maybe this move to OLB in a 3-4 will be the key that unlocks his full potential, maybe it will be the new coaching, or maybe just getting out from under the 1967 Cotton Bowl type defense of Snow that he's been saddled with for most of his career.

I just don't know. Like I said, he's really, really good but we haven't seen "Save him a spot in Canton" level of play to get that level of money.  I'm not saying he has to be the new Julius Peppers, but somewhere between him and Charles Johnson would be help.

I think this is a reasonable  assessment. But with Burns many people are only looking at what he doesn’t have or bring to the table.  I think the naysayers should be looking at what you lose if you don’t sign him. Maybe not perfect but you can’t go to the Defensive End store and get someone with all those superlatives gift wrapped to plug into a roster.  It’s not settling or overpaying it’s just what the market is for current elite players at that position. Burns will get every penny he is worth either here or elsewhere. Based on the offer the organization turned down I would bet it’s going to be here.

Folks have to deal with it.

The execs are just playing the game.   One would be an absolute moron if you think burns and bosa are comparable players.  Not even in the same stratosphere.    Burns is good.  He is going to get paid as if he is great.  Let’s hope he elevates his game.    But saying burns is as good as bosa and actually believing it is laughable at best.

    • I can say that I have defended Canales because I get that they are doing all they can to keep from looking like idiots for drafting Bryce, from the trade up to signing $150m guards to drafting XL and Brooks etc---nothing seems to work.  And Hiring Canales was part of the Bryce Young rehab program, so so he can't really decide to "move on."  That has to come from Morgan and Tepper. Personally, I think Bryce is due for an injury.  He is small, he is not thick, and he has been a LOT more healthy than most any other QB has who has endured so much pressure.  The thing that bothers me is this---Bryce really does not go through his progressions quickly.  He locks on to his presnap read and stays locked onto him for too long--he seems to fail to anticipate the WR/TE's positioning on the play before the cut--for example, if the WR is running a dig and the CB has his back to the inside of the field, he should be open for a second or less just after the cut.  He seems to wait until the cut has been made before deciding, then checking down quickly while moving in the pocket. OL:  There seems to be a lack of communication--is that on Mays?  Watch this team presnap--they seem a bit confused at times.   I can almost predict the success rate of the play by watching the center and QB before the snap.
    • Anyone else remember back in 2010 when Fox piloted having music under the in-game replays during one of Carolina's games? Not the commercial bumpers but the actual replay clips that the announcers would talk over. Pretty sure it was vs the 49ers. And it was terrible. Point being, Carolina continues being so bad that we get the networks trying things out during their games.
    • Is it bad I found this video more hilarious than pathetic? I am still laughing at that one play where half the people on the field ran into each other and Bryce still couldn't see Chuba wide open... Also laughing at Cade blocking nobody and somehow losing his cleat Man this offense is a poo show
