What's Wrong With Cornbread?

I had such high hopes for Deonte Brown aka Cornbread.  Dude is massive and was a beast at Alabama and if nothing else should  just be a space eater.  Was cut last year, resigned, and now like a 4th string guard.  Whats going on with this guy.

That's a good question!  I haven't heard anything about him at all. That's not good for him. He just mind find himself cut again if he doesn't step up.

There's a non-zero chance he makes this team, but it's about as close to zero as I think you can be.

Just lacks the functional mobility to be an NFL Offensive Lineman IMO.

The fact that he never was included in any of the Jumbo packages Wilks loved so much was telling

This. Not enough leverage and too slow

I think college kids, physically talented or not, simply struggled with his kind of size. 
 

But NFL professionals have technique to deal with that size. 
 

So what else can he bring to the table? He doesn’t have to have impeccable feet, but he must be able to nearly eliminate wasted movement to make up for slower feet. 
 

His strength is his strength and mass, but NFL DT’s can use that mass against him. He doesn’t have the feet to recover, so he has to be less aggressive with that strength. 
 

That could be why he looks big, but gets pushed/pulled around. 
 

He won’t make it unless he develops second nature technique, and counters to how DT’s use his mass against him.

Whenever a guy who looked as dominant as he did at Bama lasts until the 6th round it brings up some major red flags. I think he probably just got by with being huge in college and being surrounded by NFL talent. They could make up for his weaknesses and highlight his strengths. It's harder to do that in the NFL. NFL coordinators are very good at identifying and exploiting glaring weaknesses. His glaring weaknesses are agility and overall athleticism. He's probably just a big dude who got by with simply mauling smaller opponents at the college level and that's why he wasn't a coveted NFL prospect. I still think he was worth a gamble in the 6th round so I ain't mad even if he doesn't work out.

Yeah seems like he’s petering out like a lot of 6th rounders do. NBD, happy he got to play some. 

I wish we took that huge OT on the 3rd day this year.
