Checked out?

Checked out? As a Panther fan, that happened a few years ago. As a charter PSL-owner from 1995 until 2014, I'm now just a guy who wants to watch a good game, no matter who it is. I honestly cannot name half the roster.

Matter of fact, we'll be in WV whitewater rafting Sunday when the Panthers start their season. I spent a lot of Sundays driving, tailgating and attending games that, for the most part, just left me frustrated with the entire organization. And after all those years attending games, there are but a handful of iconic games that are fond both memories and sad reminders and most of those are going back many years. The most recent being the last Super Bowl appearance.

There has not been a franchise-defining moment for this team on the field in many, many years.

Why are you here ?

From Roaring Riot's Josh Klein...

Can't speak for anyone outside of myself, but I'm pretty excited about the upcoming season.

What are others seeing? 🤔

I’m absolutely checked out. From pathetic pre season showing, to not paying Burns, to all the injuries. This franchise is a joke!

I am optimistic this season, just like I am about every new season.  Have tickets to a couple of games, and I am looking forward to it.  I do admit that Rhule being gone makes me a little more optimistic.  That being said, new coach, new qb, lots of turnover, so I expect the season to start slow.

I also think its amusing that people are actually down about the preseason.   Preseason has never been an indicator of regular season success or lack thereof.  Never, ever.  Our 2015 preseason was terrible, at least for the starters.  The backups led by the preseason MVP Joe Webb won some games for us, but we were usually behind after the first qtr that year.

Samir was promoted in the offseason to have decision power on our spend. Tepper may be able to override him, but I think Fitt would be more of a lateral decision maker. It's very likely our front office is setup like our coaching staff. Everyone owns their own bucket of work.

ie:
Fitterer: Roster management and acqusitions
Dan Morgan: Scouting
Samir: Salary Cap
Adrient Wilson: Player evaluation

The model of one person owning it all is slowly moving its way out the NFL. There are many FOs that have multiple decision makers as opposed to just one.

And if this the case then guys should get shorter leashes compared to past decision makers who did everything.

I think most are excited but hardcore fans have become more casual and casual fans have checked out and will probably check back in if the Panthers do well. There are a couple Cam fans left surprisingly but for the most part they have completely checked out…and tbh that was a large portion of fans, they are for sure not on the forum anymore.

Im fact I think a lot of fans while excited just do things out of routine or for the sake of nostalgia/memories. I use to go to most games but stopped when Tepper took over. He is by far the worst thing that has happened to this franchise.

I’m going to go to a game this year but due to schedule it will have to be a late season game. And I’m not spending $500+ if the Panthers look like crap.

I think most long term fans will always be fans but it’s a two way street. We can be disappointed at home much more comfortably than going to games and that’s what we have come to expect.

For a while now there’s always been a reason to get excited at the beginning of every season but the result has been the same. Until otherwise, not sure what you’d expect differently.

You. It's all about your reaction. Along with Davidson and frankw.

All you guys- "You can't be here because you're not a real Panther fan. You're not allowed to answer a post that asks a question because your response is not what we want to read."

    • Boy we agree on the dink and dunk. I don’t want to watch that kind of football.  I mean okay if you win with it, it could be tolerable but it feels claustrophobic, constrained, limited, boring.  But for some reason I love a smash mouth heavy run game that wins the LOS and gets the backs to the second level.
    • I am really sorry  that  happened to you they say to never meet your sports heroes i have friends who met  mickey mantle when they were young and he was a belligerent alcoholic at the time  ut broke their hearts  I had the opportunity to meet and spend  time with Cam Newton.     He was the polar opposite of Steve Smith and his public image.   Polite.  Honest when asked question.  You could tell the things that mattered to him and the things that  didnt. The disappointments in himself and the things that hurt him  those qualities make him quite a good interviewer too  i genuinely liked him   Im sure as young, rich, sports hero, he has not been a choir boy but there is goodness in him  the time i met him i took one of my friends with me from the west coast. She said she didn't like him and wasn’t enthusiastic about meeting him.  She left loving him   No one can say anything bad about ‘her Cam’ anymore
    • Agree about oline. They've tried their best to improve that area. But honestly, has it looked like the most expensive oline in the NFL to you? Not just with Bryce. With Dalton's one game where they almost got the old man killed.  Also YAC shouldn't always be hitting a guy in stride while he's running full speed. Pickens killed us after the catch and those weren't all hit-in-stride plays. I remember a play in Miami when a guy caught a 5 yards curl and took it like 30-40 yards to the house. We don't have that in Carolina. Horn might be the closest thing to that but he can't get significant PT for whatever reason. If Bryce keeps trusting his receivers to make plays, I think he'll become more consistent. Seemed like he only trusted TMac. And force feeding one receiver isn't sustainable. Defenses will start to blanket him and take him out of the game. And yeah, keep taking deep shots. I hate all that dink and dunk football. Hate it.
