Trent Brown at LT?

Recommended Posts

Quote

Bowen writes of Brown, who is listed at No. 41 in his rankings:

The offensive line in Carolina played subpar football in the 2023 season. But adding a 6-foot-8, 370-pounder to play the left tackle spot — while moving Ikem Ekwonu inside to guard — would help turn things around. Brown used his massive frame to absorb power rushers in New England last season, and despite his limited foot quickness, he’s better in space than you’d think. The Panthers took 65 sacks (tied for second most) last season, so improvements are a must.

Pro Football Focus charged Ekwonu with 11 sacks and 44 pressures over 684 opportunities in 2023, helping lead to an overall offensive grade of 67.4 and a pass-blocking grade of 62.3. By comparison, the former Pro Bowler Brown was responsible for three sacks and 17 pressures over 334 chances with grades of 80.2 and 72.8.

He is 30 which is not old and has a heartbeat.  He is better than what we have right now so absolutely go after him.

I like the idea of grabbing an OL and DT in free agency before the draft so we can pick the best offensive players we can get

How does a first round pick go from having a good rookie season with a lot of promise to a bust in one season?

Is he just that bad?  Or

The Panthers had a terrible offensive line scheme?  Not to mention the injuries to our interior line.

I am hoping it is the latter and not the former.  This will be his third season under his 4th regime.

I don't know what Reich was trying to do but IMO there were far too many hands in the cookie jar, and it showed on the field.

The most difficult part of this is Canales is going to have very little time to figure out which one it is.  He'll have to look at tape of 2022 and 2023 and decide whether 2023 was a sophomore jinx or he'll be fine.

He's like 6'8" and pushing 400 pounds. How is Bryce gonna see over that mountain of a man?

Not like he has the arm strength anyway. I'm expecting a lot of screens and dump off next season from Bryce.

You know "game manager" stuff...
