ESPN reports Bill Belichick did not demand full control of the Falcons before being turned down for the team’s head coaching vacancy. 
 

ESPN reporters, including Jeremy Fowler, confirmed what Falcons owner Arthur Blank had said in February after the team went with Raheem Morris over Belichick, the second winningest coach in NFL history. Belichick had expressed willingness to work closely with Atlanta’s front office, including general manager Terry Fontenot. He had not — as some had assumed — demanded control of all team operations. Blank was leaning toward hiring Belichick, according to ESPN, before talking with Patriots owner Robert Kraft, who warned Blank not to trust Belichick. A source close to Kraft told ESPN the Pats owner “found Bill to be extremely difficult and obstinate and kind of stubborn and, in the end, not worthy of his trust. And also very, very, very arrogant.” Other teams, including the Titans, were turned off by what Belichick had done to the New England offense in the years after parting ways with Tom Brady. Belichick, per ESPN, will pursue head coaching vacancies next January, including, possibly, the Cowboys.

I mean, he's an old fart---who has earned his stripes and rings---who is stuck in his ways. Teams should've already known that before they brought him in. 

I heard on the radio that Kraft and Blank denied that he made any disparaging remarks.

Offensively, maybe, I don't know, the pats offense was a mess once mcdaniels and Brady left and he did some really dumb and weird things to replace them - but defensively? Dude still has it and is one of the most adaptable/brilliant defensive minds in the game.

I haven't watched it, but apparently the new Pats docuseries threw a ton of unnecessary shade Bill's way, so much so that former players were jumping to his defense for the way he was portrayed in the show.

Honestly, McDaniels offense never looked all that good without Brady.  There were some short stints where a New England backup made the offense work, but certainly no extended periods of success for the McDaniels offense without Brady.

I'd tend to side with the Patriots owner just not wanting to look foolish by getting rid of the GOAT (most consider him that)....and him going on to do better for someone else than what NE is going to do.  And I'd lay money Bill in Atl would out perform NE.

The greatness of Tom Brady just overshadowed the ineptitude of Bill Belichek. Once Brady left, he won a superbowl with Tampa and Patriots have been in the gutter. BB is a fraud.

He is too old to give thje HC job to, for my money. That, and he is so much of a control freak from what people say.  But he is a brilliant football guy. 

 I would think giving him total control of the football operations could be a good thing, but just about every guy from his tree, which is who he would likely turn to for a HC, is a big failure. So that would be big one in the negative column.

Not really a huge fan of Bill but this is hilarious. 

I'm really not expecting the Jerrod Mayo era to accomplish much. You're using one of Bill's guys to run a system that Bill built and tailored for years. They are just trying to avoid a complete rebuild.

stupid simplistic way of looking at things. belichick is a cheater and an asshole but he's also easily one of the top football minds ever and it was him who developed brady from nobody to star. they won 4 championships where brady didn't contribute significantly. the game passed belichick by and his being an asshole started to rub people the wrong way in NE causing disfunction across the board. brady went to a stacked team with a great HC and weaseled another ring (i.e. pulled a LeBron) in a weird covid year. HC is responsible for winning and should be the only one (well and GM/front office) judged by team results. QB is responsible for his play and should be judged by his play alone (stats to a degree, but moreso the eye test), not team results. brady was a very good quarterback who was in great situations his entire career. belichick created those great situations for nearly 2 decades before becoming washed up in old age and with a changing landscape in the NFL
