Here's my thing. Someone like Sam Howell was sacked just as many times as Bryce Young was and he was saddled with a not good coaching situation on top of that yet he looked significantly more capable of a passer in general than Bryce Young did at any point in the season. And he was jettisoned to another team after one single audition season. This league does not wait for hopes and dreams. It doesn't matter where you were drafted. If Bryce Young is the undisputed starter in 2025 it will be because he had a sophomore season very similar to CJ Stroud's rookie season. Just being a Teddy Bridgewater lite is not going to prevent another QB from being taken early in next years draft. Just because some fans have taken to lowering the bar down below the surface of the earth's crust does not mean Morgan and Canales have the benefit of that approach. Unless Bryce wows us all he will assuredly have real legit competition for 2025.

that's what we saw...a rookie in the worst situation a rookie could be in. there's no way i can pass judgment on what he did last year because of that. 

again, it's probably true that most people in here are a lot smarter than me and it doesn't take more than one season of a rookie in the worst possible situation to know that he's never going to amount to poo, or to at the least know that he's never going to be one to count on, but that's not where i am. i don't judge people in their worst moments when the deck is stacked against them.

if i'm going to judge at all, i do it when i see how they respond in the next moment. 

All we can do is wait and see but I'll just say I anticipate we're gonna be talking about 2025 QB prospects pretty early on. We'll see.

I just hope Tepper doesn't rage fire another coaching staff in the meantime.

I really dont think he can, he was already scraping the bottom of the barrel this time with his antics and Tiny QB.

BY is not tied to Canales. I am sure Coach was given a directive to try his best to get the most out of BY but if the results do not improve dramatically, Canales will cut bait and pick his own guy next draft to sink or swim with.

If Tepper would sign a contract that he would stay in the owner’s suite for two years and let the new coach pick his QB, staff, etc, he could get a great coach. 

This sucks the same as last year. Thinking I know what I am going to see but have to wait for it to get on the field this year to confirm or deny. 

It’s all talk at this point.

Also there's this bit about the QB position at around 43:30:

He goes on to talk about the guard play was the worst in the league, the play design sucked, the play calling sucked, the WRs couldn't separate, there was no run game, and on top of it all there was a ton of bad luck that made things go from bad to worse whether it be bad spots from refs, fumbles on successful looking drives, big plays being called back, and unfortunate and untimely drops.

Everything that could go wrong last season, did go wrong.

That's why I'm not completely writing Bryce off yet, even though many already have. See what he does with even competent level supporting cast and coaching. Here's to hoping Canales and co can provide at least that much.

I agree with you. I also appreciate how The Franchise Guy has better perspective than probably everyone on this board as he has watched every play from every team. If he says we had the worst coaching, scheme and execution I put a lot of stock in that. 

Im also going into this year with a blank slate for BY. All the guy has ever done is win. I'll bet he bounces back in a big way.

I mean, he went and played for dominant programs.  And a lot of those dudes, are really just 1 of 11.  They aren't all they do is win players.   Which is basically the recent history of Bama QBs.

Want that dude nowhere near the team, dude is a bigger show boat than Cam but half the ability.
 

And especially after not seeing what he had to say about a former team mate that criticized him(Sanders) for never making an effort to know him. Sanders went as far as far to tweet that he had no idea who the dude was and he had to have been “mid at best”. Bro your team finished 4-8, chill.

 

good content for the timeline, but not what you want in a franchise QB. I fundamentally question his ability to face adversity most importantly, gel with the rest of an NFL locker room without his dad running the show.  He seems like the type of dude to constantly give other teams ammunition, but never good enough to warrant it.

I don't really think there is anyone here arguing that Carolina wasn't bottom of the barrel in any/all of those areas. However, it doesn't change that the execution of all of the individual players sucked as well, Bryce absolutely included. None of this is mutually exclusive.
