Mike Garafolo: Panthers are in on DK Metcalf trade

Recommended Posts

Neglect that D again and that should put them into firing range by the end of the year.

I have no idea why they want to bet on the offense carring a terrible D but that's what they want apparently.

I just don't see him extending here unless we offer best-at-position money.

I just don't see that as being justified, TBH.

Yeah, I can't see paying Seattle's asking price AND signing him to a 5 year / $150 million contract.  That's just irresponsible.  Now if it's a 4th rounder...OK, that becomes more interesting contract aside.  I'd tell him prove it.  If you want $30 million, earn that.

Would love to have the guy, don't get me wrong, but he has never at any point consistently played like an elite WR. Why would we pay him elite money?

Because we are talking about the Panthers and the consistently stupid decisions they’ve made under the Tepper rule. I hope they don’t do this.

Take him, draft Warren and Skattebo…

go defense the rest of the way, sign a DT, draft pass rushers and a DT…

If they could address the front 7 before the draft... that'd be a solid offense no lie. Definitely  need to get creative and get a pass rusher and nose tackle

Similar stat line to Tee Higgins who has been sucked off hawk tuah style for 2 full years on this board.

Higgins doesn't have the drop issues that Metcalf does, nor does he have the issue of being a #2 WR like Higgins does.

Not to say I think we should pay a massive bag to Higgins either.

I am just saying there is nothing about Metcalf, outside pure Underwear Olympics boner inducing Al Davis wet dream athletic ability, that screams top 5 paid player at the position. He really has been underwhelming, if anything.

Not bad. He definitely isn't bad. And I do want him.....but not at that price. We can't go player, to player, to player and reset the market. We will be in shambles for another decade.

Id prefer to find a guy in the draft but Metcalf is only 27, birthday in December so he's still relatively young and has good experience. I would give a 3rd round pick if I were trading. He's worth that. But a 1st and 3rd like they are asking for........room something GIF

This is an incredibly dumb move if the rumors are true.

Sure fits the MO. Seahawks cast off, big move they shouldn't make and won't help with the biggest issues.

I get calling but being all in just makes it seem like Scott is still around.

Swap 1st & 2nd round picks, then I would be all in for that trade.

Give them a top 10 pick for a WR who will be 28 by the end of the year and will be one of the highest paid at his position? That's how you remain firmly in the cellar as we have been....

    • I originally hated the Miller deal but with the cap projected to rise nearly $10M next season the Canes struck some pretty good deals between Miller and Ehlers. Most of the team is locked in for the next few years. Nikishin will need an extension probably in the $6M AAV range. And Blake will need one if we don’t move him. Personally I’d move Blake, picks, and any prospect not named Nikishin/Nadeau/Artamonov for McTavish as I don’t see any any of the big time players moving teams next year. Realistically the Hurricanes should just target Gustavsson next year to fix the goal tending issue. But I’m all for moving Blake, picks, and prospects for McTavish this year. Ehlers - Aho - Jarvis Svechnikov - McTavish - Stankoven Martinook - Staal - Carrier Hall - Kotkaniemi - Robinson Jost - Jankowski Slavin - Miller Nikishin - Chatfield Gostisbehere - Walker Reilly Andersen Kochetkov I’d do Blake, Felix-Unger-Sorum, and 27 2nd for McTavish.
    • Very true on the length but stuff like this is never where we shine. We aren’t a good team at drafting.
    • Homerism aside, the more I see from Dan, the more impressed I am.  His player evaluation instincts. Last year his 2 premier FA signings, Hunt and Lewis COMPLETELY changed the line and I have a feeling his success in choosing blue chip guys will continue.  Look at the panthers’s rep for FA signings in the past. By and large, it’s been guys 1 year past their prime who had an injury and suckered our GM in to a crippling contract. We never get nice things. When was the last time this team signed 2 young blue chip studs  in the same offseason to contracts worthy of their impact? Ever?  Im telling y’all, players respect and trust Morgan.
