The Evolution of the Panthers WR Room from 2023 to 2025

Recommended Posts

Very good write up OP. Really enjoyed reading it.

The camp battle for the final WR spot(s) will be fascinating.

I think Renfrow will have the inside track if he is remotely like the guy he once was.

Good route runners are the best friend of a QB throwing with anticipation.

Im intrigued by Jacolby George, but I think there's a good chance the team will release and then sign back to PS unless he really impresses.

I wouldn't be completely surprised if David Moore gets the final WR spot. He can play a lot of different roles and knows Canales system. He really contributed over the last few games, but hes not a long term or even intermediate term solution so hopefully we can upgrade.

Moore fits here, but I dont think we would have a lot of competition if he was cut and then brought back if needed

I think this is the strongest we've been at WR, RB, TE and Oline in a long time.

This is the offense we were gaslighted into believing we had in 2023 and so justified trading up for a QB.

Regardless, the past is the past.

On paper, this is definitely the best unit since 2021, maybe 2017.

It's Year 3 for Bryce. Everything is lining up.

I've been a BY9 supporter more than most, but this is his year to show out and he has the supporting cast.

Cam didn't make the playoffs until Year 3. But statistically, the goods ones do by this time.

I'm legit excited for this offense- hope they dont let us down.

Yeah you know the Panthers finally have made strides when two vets that have contributed across the league (Hunter Renfrow and David Moore) will probably fight it out for the last spot.  Good problem to have.

Was originally thinking about including TEs in the write up as an overall view at the "weapons" but was too lazy to do RBs as well. 💀

But at a glance...

2023

  • RBs: Miles Sanders, Chuba Hubbard, Raheem Blackshear
  • TEs: Hayden Hurst, Ian Thomas, Tommy Tremble, Stephen Sullivan, Giovanni Ricci

2024

  • RBs: Miles Sanders, Chuba Hubbard, Raheem Blackshear, Jonathon Brooks, Mike Boone
  • TEs: Ja'Tavion Sanders, Tommy Tremble, Ian Thomas, Feleipe Franks, Jordan Matthews

2025:

  • Projected RBs: Chuba Hubbard, Rico Dowdle, Trevor Etienne, Raheem Blackshear
  • Projected TEs: Ja'Tavion Sanders, Tommy Tremble, Mitchell Evans

I'm really excited with how the offense has been built and I think we have a real chance to compete at a high level on that side of the ball this year. It's year 3 for Bryce and it's time for him to show out and solidify his place as this teams QB for the future. The supporting cast is there from Oline, WR, RB and HC there's no reason why we shouldn't be at least a top 15 offense this year. The defense will be the achilles heel of this team again but I'd be ok losing some fun shootouts.

I don't think Mingo didn't fit due to "scheme." He literally just isn't an NFL player.

He was always going to be a project, but he really did look better in college. When he got here he looked like he couldn't walk and chew gum at the same time. Just the most awkward WR I've ever seen. Zero field presence or ball skills.

    • Idk man, I think it’s necessary.  There’s people working 9-5s everyday that get told poo about what they aren’t and what they’re not capable of and they’re working for scraps.  These guys are making millions.  People are watching and invested because their team and fandom is a part of their identity and a big source of pride.  When someone like Bryce comes in and is given chance after chance after chance after proving he is not worthy of the position he’s being gifted, and he continues to be the biggest reason above any that we are losing, yeah…  I think it’s fair to call a spade a spade.  Am I saying Bryce the person is trash?  Bryce the person is a piece of poo?  Absolutely not.     I came up in an era, especially in basketball, where if you were fuging up people heckled the poo out of you.  I played in rec leagues as a teen where the fuging parents were calling kids trash and yelling poo like “TURNOVER!!!  TURNOVER!!!”  “CANT DRIBBLE!”  “CANT SHOOT!”  And that’s adults screaming that poo to kids like we were in the fuging Rucker lol.🤣🤣🤣  I went on to play basketball at a collegiate level and with professional players in different settings.  What those experiences as a kid taught me was to see if there is any merit to what people are saying, and if there is, then work my ass off til they can’t say that anymore.  Come back better, tougher, harder.  And I did.  If kids can figure that poo out, an adult calling another adult who is bad at his job while making millions and millions of dollars will be just fine.
    • I have tried to like this team, lord knows I have tried. BY9 is a nice young man, if I had a daughter he can take her to prom, but he ain't QB1 and he's not Cam or Delhomme Chuba is a average RB, he isn't Stephen Davis, he isn't J-Stew McMillan has the makings of a good WR, but he isn't 89/Moose D. Brown is a great player, but if the game was on the line I want Kris Jenkins       I miss this brand of football, even in the bad Jake games the games were entertaining It has been nearly 8 years now of watching numb football
    • I'm not so sure. Something about the whole Frank/Bryce situation seemed off from day 1. Bryce didn't fit Frank's QB mold as well as Stroud, then he basically gives up when Bryce is named starter in preseason but gets virtually no reps in games. Then he looks completely unprepared and Dalton steps in in Seattle, has a decent game under immense pressure, and it's right back to Bryce. All his mechanics are terrible and he's having the worst rookie season ever and Frank doesn't bench him?  You dont have to be a conspiracy theorist to know Bryce wasn't ready to be a day 1 starter. Everything with Bryce, then coaches, and the FO seemed forced.
