Surprise! Kon looks really bad!

Now that I’ve watched a few SL games…Kon looks like a nice piece…especially considering he will get many more open shots in a true starting lineup. He is smart with the ball to. I think Melo gets traded at some point this season. Probably Miles too. Get more draft capital and build it right.

We have a bunch of injury prone players which concerns me and I’m not so sure about Lee or our team D with this group, but gotta love that there does appear to be a real culture shift with new ownership and front office. Still need to be patient but I think this team might finally be on the right track after decades of being trash with our absolute ceiling being a round 1 playoff loss, or more recently, play-in blow out loss. The Hornets being good for once would be fuging awesome for the city, and for the league.

I find it funny kon gets such a hard time in summer league. He wasn't drafted to be the lead guy like some after him. He's a jack of all trades part that's gonna fill cracks at a high level.

What I don't get is how this team expects to defend anyone. If healthy, there are so many scoring options and playmakers. But thin defending the rim.

I'm a wizards fan, and the wizard fan base, imo, is crazy to think the hornets are worse off than the wizards. The wiz have no proven guys and Tre Johnson might be a gem, the rest are meh or blah.

Nice turnaround for Kon.  I’m still a little worried about his ability to create for himself and others, but it was SL.  Come regular season, he will playing a much different role and shots will be there for him.  He showed some reason for hope - and not just him, but the whole squad.  I suppose for the first time ever, we have drafted and acquired enough young talent that we actually not only competed for once, but won the whole thing in summer league.

Kon, Simpson, and Sims made all the difference.  Almost every year prior I felt we always struggled because we usually didn’t have a floor general/real PG to get us into offense.  This was such a breath of fresh air.  And look at us!  We finally are champions!😂

Ill quote you in my simple report.

The best player for the hornets was Simpson. If hornets....by some miracle stay healthy, Simpson will get 0 minutes on the season OR 2-3 minutes in a 50 point barn burner. That's summer league for you.

Kon, much better with the ball, better passer, better deep 3 shooter, and bigger body than I thought.

He never got a matchup with a decent NBAer player. He did look slow and to borrow a video game term- laggy at times trying to defend players that will never get NBA minutes. He's got to figure out how to defend with his limitations. Im not sure he will get over 15 minutes at the seasons start, just depends on the comments before this. The type of system will be important. If Kon is unable to guard players, they will iso him to death and destroy his confidence.

It's starts all over for Kon. He picked up the slack for Simpson fading and was the tourney MVP. Sims scored the win the game before and Kalk had his best game at the end too.

Maybe maybe maybe, these rookies will change the hornets for the better.

My opinion- check back on Kon when the all-star break happens. He's 19 and repeat that until the ears hurt. I hope he's able to keep his confidence level high, the NBA will humble everyone. Lequeen James got drunk on every practice until he got better.

This team/franchise is being constructed the right way. We are drafting smart/tough guys and things are moving in the right direction. I wonder if Ball and Miller will be able to lead, though?

One of them can, one of them seems to be the problem with team attitude and everyone always being hurt/soft. Really hoping LaMelo can "be trying now" all season this year.

In this new era of basketball where teams are scoring 120+ on the regular, the best way to improve your “defense” is by maximizing offensive efficiency.  This roster is much better suited to do that than any in recent memory.

Hopefully these new guys light a fire under Ball's ass and he either wakes up or we trade him.

It is pitiful how much Ball is wasting his potential at the expense of the team.

Dude is so talented, but not very cerebral and cannot stay healthy

    • Nobody is saying we don't need it, just that we have bigger needs elsewhere, and that type of WR is actually something that is often found in the mid rounds, you just have to scout and evaluate properly. Here's another way of looking at why WR in the 1st shouldn't even be considered an option. Looking only at players currently on the team, what position group would you feel strongest about 4 years from now? I'm not sure there is a better answer there than WR, as you have to think T-Mac is our best player on the team in 4 years, with Coker not far behind. Our OL is too old to be considered, my opinions on Bryce is well known, Hubbard will be done by then and the rest of the RB is an unknown, Off-ball LB is maybe our biggest need, we only have 1 legit safety, it's certainly not TE, and our 2nd best CB right now will be 33 by then.   Brown should still be a beast as he'll only be 31, but nobody else on the DL projects to be that good in 4 years.  Edge rusher with Phillips, Scourton, and Princely is probably the only other possible answer than WR. So yes, that fast/shifty type of WR is 100% a need of ours, but we have so many other bigger needs both in the immediate and future, that to me, taking a WR in the 1st for the 3rd year in a row and having hit on another WR in the same time frame, just makes zero sense both currently and looking into the future.
    • Laughing at Slayton (Mooney or Calvin Austin III), but telling me that Coker is the next best thing since sliced bread...You laughing at Theo Johnson in reference to our guys too? LOL No one in their right mind thinks Nabers is anything but a stud (definitely top 10 if not 5 potential). You do realize that Thomas was in a new system with a furst-time coach last year (with a questionable QB to boot)? And yet still, it's possible that he eclipses even T-mac (not saying that he will). They didn't even mention Travis Hunter. In any event, we're not in the top half. Draft another legit receiver, and we will be.
    • Absolutely, very fair assessment of the team.
