Evero?!?! Should he be on the Hot Seat

I have been very supportive of Evero because we focused on the offensive line last year. Then Brown went down, followed by Shaq and on and on. I believed that no one could have run a great defense with our 2024 roster and all the injuries.  This year we added some really nice pieces to the starting line up and several depth pieces but once the starters came out of the game our defense looked like 2024 all over again.   I recently read an article that has him stoking the fire on his hot seat.

Has Evero lost his ability to run a defense?  Is his scheme not achievable?  I want him to succeed but I am getting worried everything we have tried to do this season will go for not if his scheme doesn't work.

Thoughts?

His only real success was running someone else's D and scheme with a soft decline. That's it. I have no idea what the team sees in him or why they brought him back in a year when they were building on the D heavily. Everything I have seen so far leads me to view this as a deadend.

It's funny, there were several plays where 4 or 5 Panthers were all bunched up and knocked out of the play.  it was like watching Pee Wee football where all the kids are in one spot.

I have been a supporter of Evero.  I believed he was given a bad deal with all the injuries but the Browns 2nd and 3rds made our 2nd and 3rds look like they didn't belong in uniform.

Idk if you want to use the term hot seat but without a doubt he is out of excuses regardless of what transpires this season. His defense needs to be at least middle of the pack and we need to see better situational playcalling. If not it's time to move on.

I don’t know why anybody ever thought he was good. I’m convinced the only reason he still has a job is the team hoping to get that compensatory pick if a minority coach gets promoted by another team. But he’s not getting HC interviews and so far the talk of him as a hc candidate has just been all talk by the media with no real substance. He’s never fielded a top defense as a DC, and the Broncos defense got better when he left, not worse. Our defense has only gotten worse with him as a DC, despite continuing to bring in guys that he wants, his ex players from other teams, DJ Johnson, etc. Go back and watch him put Fuller one on one with the opponents top receiver last year over and over. He’s closer to idiot than savant, imo.

Initially I was ok with the first team defense.  A couple of plays were questionable but seemed like there was some improvement.  Then the replacements came in.  They are playing against the same caliber players.  Why are they getting pushed around like they are playing against the first team offense.

Yeah, I get it, most of these guys will be selling insurance by week one.  Well so are the guys on the other side of the ball.  Our defense should be playing similarly.

    • It will be really interesting to see how both sides handle this. I'm sure the team would love to get him signed to a 4 year deal based on his output so far and some potential factored in, i.e. something like a 4 year $30 million contract.  But I could see his agent telling him the best path is to take the one year offer, put up a big year next year and then really cash in. The team also has to keep in mind T-Mac's 2nd contract, which likely will happen after the 2027 season assuming he keeps improving as expected.  Even if we could get him on a budget 4 year deal for what he could become, the problem then becomes when he wants to re-negotiate in 2 years during the same summer we will extend T-Mac, and you don't want to spend that much on WRs in one offseason, just see the Bengals this last year. Taking everything into consideration, I'm thinking the 1 year deal and then getting him to sign a 4-5 year deal after hopefully say a 800ish yard season next year might be best for our cap situation and separate his and T-Mac's negotiation periods.
    • And yet jax made it no further than we did, and its very possible the Pats don't either. I think it speaks more to the overall down year for the nfl as far as having great/dominant teams, every team this year has fatal flaws that can be exploited
    • Ehhh I agree the nfc is stronger this year but their really werent any truly dominant teams this year everyone is flawed, I think the narrative for the NFL this year will to try ahd force a Josh Allen SB win
