Scourton - Collapsed Lung, Week-to-Week

I’ve had two surgeries for spontaneous pneumothorax. I’ve had a bunch of little 5% to 20% collapses and they usually send ya home and they go away on their own. But they are painful.

Hell, I didn't realize that they were talking about what happened in joint practices. They thought that heat was causing the issue, but it was a collapsed lung.

Let's just be happy we didnt botch this and made the kid keep playing through it cause he's a "dog".

Probably fluid build up from something else going on. I've had one before and it took about 12 weeks to recover. Mine was 40% filled with fluid and more than partially collapsed though

Apparently it mimicked being overheated so that’s what they originally thought happened. Hope he heals up fast, he needs reps.

Glad he’s ok. Players have literally died during training camp so they definitely are more careful now.

Canales said Scourton wanted to push through and the trainers wouldn't let him.

It was a good call. His recovery time could have been a lot longer had he tried to keep going and made it worse.

I remember having a collision at home plate in high school playing catcher.

I thought I just "got my bell rung" as we were told back in the 90s. 

I saw stars the rest of the game and couldnt really remember what happened once I got home that night.

My head hurt for a couple of days, but I was back at practice, and I guess I was "fine" after that, but I certainly wouldn't be that cavalier with my kids and sports injuries.

Things are much better across the board in all sports now. Concussions are actually taken seriously, from youth all the way through the pros.
