Yeah, that was one of Cam's key messages to him. Like man, you gotta focus on FOOTBALL FIRST. All these other opportunities likely vanish if you let yourself wash out of the league. I really don't think the Panthers did him on favors focusing on him so prominently in their marketing. He was a guy coming off a less than stellar rookie season that we were hoping would make a leap but the Panthers got out ahead of themselves and treated him like he'd arrive because they saw his marketability but that hinged on him delivering on the field. Right now everyone is looking a little clownish because they put the cart before the horse.

The Panthers under the Tepper's put way too much emphasis on marketing and winning social media instead of improving the product on the field. Hell they can't get grass instead of turf right but they're sure eager to hock racoon inspired sandwiches. Shouldn't be a surprise to anyone that this has yielded negative results.

Yeah I think stuff is in his head big time. I bet he reads the net and  saw what people were saying about him, all offseason. Which I thought was unfair (and telling, that a lot of people who won’t hear a bad word about Bryce, went all in on XL).

Then he fuged up the 1st play of that preseason game getting thrown out. Then the first game he pulls a couple of bonehead moves, probably saw people talking about him more. It isn’t good in any event but feeling hate from your fan base probably did a number on him. Seems like a real nice guy, that maybe is too sensitive.

I am sure someone will try to help I’m get his mind wrapped around how he Has to respond and if he goes into a shell and doesn’t fight back it’s over for him.

Ladd was obviously the pick, but we decided to take the big swing. I realize that most here don't see that as an excuse, but I'm just saying that I understand, even if I don't love what it's come to. Teams that are rebuilding from the studs should probably take a more conservative approach.

I dont think "raw" 5th year seniors are big swing guys personally.

There's just zero reason for taking a non-QB project player in the 1st round.  Just landing serviceable players would greatly improve the roster.  But we continue to pass it up for fools gold every year.

I mean, to be fair, we've really only missed on 2 first round picks since 2016, they just happened to be the last 2 years before hitting again this year with T-Mac.

Hell, looking back even further, we're just historically great at not screwing up the 1st round since 2001.

The worst 1st round picks we've had since then are... XL, Bryce, Butler, Otah, and KB.

The next worst pick other than those 5 since 2001 would probably be between Star and Ickey.

Yea first round isn’t accurate.  But there have been several players we over drafted instead of taking the obvious pick.
