Greg Cosell: Bryce Young is a complimentary piece

Cosell is great and correct in this case. Just as interesting was the next subject and the Dick Vermeil quote (when you take a guy 1 the whole building must be focused on making him succeed) and how the Titans were doing a bad job of that. We surrounded a complimentary piece with a joke of a wr corp, oline, coach. LOL.  30M is too expensive for a complimentary piece.

But we're not talking about 90% of QBs in NFL history. We're talking about a guy who we traded a fortune for to draft #1 overall. It's about whether or not we pick up his 5th year option. Any thoughts of a long-term contract should be completely off the table. You can honestly get Bryce Young level play from a journeyman vet backup and it'll cost a lot less than his 5th year option.

Can't wait to see the Bryce stans blaming our RBs when they aren't going for 200+ yards to carry Bryce and he regresses.

Agree with your post 99%. The only point I’ll make is I don’t care about sunk cost anymore. If we hadn’t traded a thing for him and gotten him in whatever round it doesn’t matter to me because 3 years in and he’s simply just not the guy.

Just my .02

I wouldn't care about it if I didn't think it would play into the Panthers' decision making process. It is what it is. We made a colossal mistake. I just hope we don't allow the hesitation to admit that colossal mistake lead to another one.

Didnt watch the video, but I agree Bryce is 100% a complimentary piece right now. No argument there. But to be fair, there are only a handful of QBs that aren't. Lamar. Pat. Josh. Maybe Stafford. Herbert. Maybe Dak? Though not sure how good he would have looked last week without Pickens. A franchise QB can be a complimentary piece.

You cant be concerned with cost of the trade anymore.   That deal is done and has been done.

He'll probably be fine this week against the Jets but yeah then things are gonna get real.

He will probably be fine if Rico goes nuts.  But if not, Bryce operates on about a coin flip scenario of being horrible any given Sunday pretty much regardless of opponent.

The Jets are better at run stuffing than stopping the pass, as are we.  Both teams struggle to throw the ball with consistency.  It’s gonna come down to who makes more plays, Bryce or Fields?

This game could end up as a kicker’s showcase.

If I had to parse it out, there's still a good to bad scale for both the centerpiece QB and complimentary types.  The idea isn't that they're all elite, but have the traits so that the teams are built for them, rather than them just being inserted in.

Some just don't lift the team enough, others do (Allen/Mahomes/etc.). But it can be a gradual process (not always instant) where maybe they started as complimentary early and grew into a stud the team eventually built around.

Centerpiece:

Josh Allen

Patrick Mahomes

Matthew Stafford

Lamar Jackson

Joe Burrow

Justin Herbert

Jayden Daniels

Drake Maye

Dak Prescott

CJ Stroud

Trevor Lawrence

Caleb Williams

Jordan Love

Kyler Murray (worst of this bunch)

Complimentary

Brock Purdy

Jalen Hurts

Dillon Gabriel

Tua

Unsure So-far:

Jaxon Dart

Michael Penix

JJ McCarthy

Bo Nix

Cam Ward

Vet who was inserted and then sorta built-around:

Jared Goff

Baker Mayfield

Sam Darnold

Daniel Jones

Agree with your premise basically completely, though I might move some people around - especially the vets at the end... Goff and Mayfield look like centerpiece players now, and Darnold I'd say is around the top of the complimentary. Daniel Jones is still unknown.

    • My projection. I think at WR its time to go with youth. This means Moore should be the odd man out. Horn can return both punts and kicks and Tremayne is a better WR than Moore. XL gets one more year to prove himself, although I could see a trade in the future which would mean Moore could stay. For OL, I would like us to bring back Brady if we can. The RBs, Trevor can return both punts and kicks too. With the uncertainty of Brooks and Dillon, its hard to choose either one. I think the team would like for Brooks to have a breakout season to clear any uncertainty that he deserves a spot. For now, I have them both even and on the team. DL looks solid as well as OLB. Watch out for the UDFA of Aaron Hall and Isaiah Smith at OLB. They look promising and could knock someone off the team. ILB is still the biggest weakness on the team. We need to upgrade that any means necessary. CB is strong and Im praying to all the Gods that Wheatley beats out Scott at FS.  OFFENSE: WR: Tetairoa McMillan - *Chris Brazzell II* - Brycen Tremayne TE: Tommy Tremble - James Mitchell LT: #Rasheed Walker# - *Monroe Freeling* LG: Damien Lewis C- #Luke Fortner# - *Sam Hecht* RG: Robert Hunt - #Saahdiq Charles# RT: Taylor Moton - #Stone Forsythe# TE: Ja`Tavion Sanders - Mitchell Evans WR: Xavier Legette - Jalen Coker - Jimmy Horn Jr. QB: Bryce Young - #Kenny Pickett# RB: Chuba Hubbard - Trevor Etienne - #AJ Dillon# - Jonathon Brooks DEFENSE: LE: Tershawn Wharton - Bobby Brown III  NT: *Lee Hunter* - Cam Jackson RE: Derrick Brown - LaBryan Ray LOLB: Nic Scourton - Patrick Jones II  LILB: Trevin Wallace - Bam Martin-Scott - *Jackson Kuwatch* RILB: #Devin Lloyd# - Claudin Cherrelus  ROLB: #Jaelen Phillips# - Princely Umanmielen LCB: Jaycee Horn - Akayleb Evans RCB: Mike Jackson - *Will Lee III* - Chau Smith-Wade SS: Tre`von Moehrig - Lathan Ransom FS:  Nick Scott - *Zakee Wheatley* - Demani Richardson  SPECIAL TEAMS: K/KO: Ryan Fitzgerald P/H: Sam Martin KR: Trevor Etienne - Jimmy Horn Jr. PR: Trevor Etienne - Jimmy Horn Jr. LS: J.J. • His contract is guaranteed.  Legette is just not where he needs to be mentally.  Not fully invested, it seems.
    • Literally like Hill. He's not QB1 material (now or ever), but if we can turn him into a H-back and use him like  Swiss army knife, that's his ticket to make the roster.  H-back/emergency QB.  I wonder how good his hands are?  If they are at least above average by NFL standards then we can line him up in the backfield, in the slot, split out wide and of course, in the Wildcat.
