Two really quick questions that you need to be honest about.

1. IF Cam is healthy, give him a 5-year, incentive laden deal, voidable after three years. It protects the Panthers long-term, but gives Cam upfront money if he produces quickly.

Thats not a bad option. I might want to see those options after the first year.

Something to ponder....

1. If you are the Carolina Panthers do you give Cam Newton an extension?

2. If you are Cam Newton, do you step foot on a field under a 1 year contract?

1:  No, not under any circumstances at this time.  If he comes back next season, plays at a high level, has no issues with his feet or shoulder, then yes, after the season.

2:  Depends, but if you want another big contract you will likely need to do so.

No & no.

I do find it funny however that while as things stand this is a business decision by corporate, if the situation were reversed & Cam made a business decision to leave so he had a real chance at a ring or few... Many looking at this as a business decision for the Panthers' FO would call him every kind of traitor in the book.

1. Yes. They have maintained to play Cam when he is 100% healthy. It seems that this decision is mutual with Cam. If not Cam driven, which would rule that out.

2. See above.

1.  Wouldn’t be smart from a business perspective

2.   Same answer

The second question is the biggest one...being injured for basically the last 2 years, do you set this next year out to be your 'tryout' for the rest of the league for your final big payday?  Be it from the Panthers or another team after next year, he will potentially gain millions more if he plays next season here (given the opportunity) and show that he still has it to be a top 10 QB in the league.  On the other side, he could spiral down next year and potentially cost himself millions if gets hurt again or under performs...depends on how risky he wants to be.

My question would be, which team is a Cam Newton away from a Super Bowl, especially considering a shoulder that's seen 2 surgeries and a lisfranc injury that isnt healing the way it was expected? The trade would have to be made in the offseason. I cant see any real Super Bowl contenders paying him starter money with such huge question marks. $30 million (bargain rate for what the huddle thinks of Cams skills) of cap space doesnt make sense for what has been for the last year and a half, damaged goods.

1. No, unless he is willing to take some heavily incentive laden deal that has little to no guarantees which he would be dumb to take.

2. No, I would asked to be traded to a team that would give me an extension or to be released.

And if I were the Panthers I would trade him to an AFC team or keep him on his 1 year deal. I have the leverage to franchise tag him on a one year deal after that before I would have to consider an extension.

Cam isn't holding out, he already has 100 million and knows that will tarnish his image as an icon. He want to play and redeem himself. That will be Cam 2.0.

    • You’re playing madden we’re talking real football stuff…. He does have you seen his special on internet he def thinks he’s getting paid
    • Without the team having an identity kinda hard to predict what they value.  They either are really trying to build a balanced team, or preparing for another swing at qb if Bryce doesn’t pan out. Seems like we value the o line but the $ spent there has been underwhelming besides Lewis, you could say it’s because of injuries but still hasn’t been worth the investment. as already stated, the whole handling of Bryce young as a whole has been ass backwards, we spent the years we’re supposed to take advantage of having a qb with a lower cap hit, building the team up to be adequate. now It appears, key word appears, the saints have done it correctly, which is painful to even think about. Regardless, I hope the front office has paid attention to qb contracts recently, such as Tua, Kyler, Daniel jones(pre colts) and don’t settle for subpar qb play at franchise qb rates
    • This is the flaw in your logic.  Cutting 3 of our best players will somehow move us from whatever we are to "compete". Even the most Young super fans are not predicting a ceiling above top 10-12, and that will not nearly cut it.  Someone will need to break the log jam of QBs getting nothing or North of 50. Our qb is at best a middle ground, lets hope it will be us that also manage to pay the worth at about 100 over 3 years.  And before you jump me, yes that is only of he improves.
