Quarterback Dwayne Haskins visited with the Carolina Panthers first, but he has found a new home elsewhere. He has signed a one-year reserve/future contract with the Pittsburgh Steelers after a visit Thursday.

The Panthers previously had him in to meet with the team Jan. 11 and offered the quarterback a contract after the meeting,`per a source with direct knowledge of the situation. That meeting took place prior to the team hiring new general manager Scott Fitterer.

However, Haskins opted to go to Pittsburgh instead,

He chose the more stabile option, and the one that fit his situation a little better. He needs to learn to be a pro, not be thrust into the fire before he's ready. I'm impressed that he even realized it. Now he can sit behind Ben for at least a year and learn and hopefully grow. He has the physical tools. Now it's just a matter of getting his mind right and seeing how high his ceiling is.

Funny how people act as if suddenly becoming a millionaire celebrity at age 22 should have no impact on your maturity.  These athletes are put on a pedestal--many from poor homes---and suddenly surrounded by fame and fortune.  They have never failed in sports--always the best athlete on the field, and that is what they believe they are.  So much depends on the athlete's support system.  I expect this coaching staff to kick the tires on a lot a players that we would call "damaged goods".

    • Nothing wrong with it at all until you start telling others they are bad fans or not fans. But you are.    I did many years of that type of uninformed fanning because there really was no info and coverage like there is with the internet.    I mean, I used to go to the store and get Street and Smith’s annual football issue. That was about the extent of what you could get if you didn’t live in a big city with sportswriters covering and reporting.  There was no video to look at or replay the games and if you didn’t live in the market you could only rarely see your football team play.    TI have fanned since being a kid in the early 1960s, and as late as 1995 - ‘97 I lived in Atlanta and good luck getting more than 3 or 4 games a year on TV. No radio either. No print coverage outside of an AP recap and box unless they played Atlanta.  People today that have always had the network connection don’t know.    I wasn’t very educated about the Panthers until I finally got internet.
    • oh now that's what you call Mother Fiuggure fans the ones that always have this fierce protective shield around the team no matter if they win or lose  & to be honest there is nothing really wrong with being a Mother Fiugguer fan they just have a different meaning or sense of what a true fan really is                                                 ☺️
    • I'd gamble, miles josh green and 2-3 firsts especially if we could trade both this years and 1 future
