In '21, Jared Goff has a $37M cap hit. Matt Ryan has a $41M cap hit. Carson Wentz has a $35M cap hit. I don't think you're in tune with what good QBs make in today's NFL.

And all three have questionable relationships with their team's futures right now...

Those hits happen all the time. Teddy. Alex. Brady. Theisman. Cam. Luke. Delhomme. Really, in this game that's how most great players end their careers or end up as a shell of themselves. And then you're on the hook for those contracts.

If we get Watson, I'll cheer him on. Not a problem. But there will always be the question if we'll be paying too much for him up and until that contract is over. There will also be the question of how bad that contract is going to hamstring the entire team over time.

None of those hits are like Smith's or Theisman's, whose were truly career altering. Luke was still playing at an elite level and still could be. Brady, come on... Is Teddy any worse than he was before the injury? No.

Could Watson miss time with injury and make it tough for us to win? Sure obviously, that's a risk of the game. All 32 teams are in that same boat. You don't make decisions based on fear of a player getting a career altering injury. That's absurd.

It's irrelevant. The Jets have 2 1st rd picks this year, so they have more immediate impact. As does Miami. Either could trade both of those picks and the QB they just drafted, and throw in next years 1st. Both are higher profile landing spots.

They have to be interested in making the deal though. The Dolphins came out pretty early that they weren't gonna be involved. For better or worse, they really do seem committed to Tua. The Jets are reportedly planning on sticking with Darnold but I don't necessarily buy it.

Paying too much for him?

Have you seen Mahomes new contract?  35M + is the new going rate for a top flight, young franchise QB - which Watson DEFINITELY is.  His deal will end up being somewhat of a bargain as the years go forward.  Hell, we're stuck paying Bridgewater 20M.  There are no deals for future Hall of Fame QBs these days.  If you have the chance to get one - you do it.  Lamar Jackson and Baker Mayfield and Josh Allen are all going to get at least 30M a year in their next deals.

no way.  inwouldnt give more than 2 1sts and a 3rd

You do realize that the first this year is a wash, right?  We would be drafting a rookie QB at 8, so its like drafting Watson at 8 this year instead.  Dont get hung up on this years first.

    • I think i like the Oregon Safety better
    • Do you see the vision?  As of now our Carolina Panthers don’t have an identity. We are not an offensive powerhouse and on defense we only started getting it together towards the end of the year last year. In my opinion we are much closer to having an incredible defense that scares the daylights out of people. I say the answer is simple and we fully commit to that possible identity.    Emmanuel McNeil Warren (E man)  This guy is like a shark lurking around ready to attack anyone. Fearless. He is easily a top 20 talent in my eyes, and the only reason he isn’t more talked about is because he’s from Toledo. Do your due diligence as panther fans and watch his tape I beg you. Once you’re done watching let me ask you this, if you dropped E - Man into the strong safety spot on the Buckeyes, he isn’t being talked about as one of the best prospects we’ve seen in some time given the skill set you see with this guy? I think so. Put his name on the card and turn it in at 19.    Jacob Rodriguez  High effort, High energy, High IQ guy that flies around the field. We all know Jacob at this point. My only concern is he’s a little bit too good and I’m not sure he makes it to us at our pick in the second. With the additions of Jacob and E- Man I think our defense goes to top 5 in the league. We would have a duo of linebackers that rival anything we’ve had in our past. I’m not a GM so I don’t know what the possible answer could be, but if there’s a way we can comfortably trade up in the second to secure this guy I think we find a way to do it.    Spend the rest of our picks fixing the O - line.    Thoughts Panthers fans? Who’s the ideal duo for yall?
    • OL is arguably much more important to the success of a young QB. (Or any QB)
