I think that is entirely dependent on what the Texans need in a deal and if we can meet them. We will damn sure outbid anyone, but if they want a young stud starting QB, that is not something we can provide. I still think we are the most likely to get him, but if they wake up tomorrow and say I want Zach Wilson or Tua 100% then we can't make that happen.

Thank you, friend. Always appreciate your takes

Lamar Jackson and John Allen are more of a sure thing than Deshaun Watson?

Not sure about John Allen, but I think Josh and Lamar have proven themselves as contenders for the Lombardi a bit better. And there's still some room for improvement for both.

And he blew out his achilles just three months ago. No way he plays again this year. He may never be the same.

Brandon Brooks on the Eagles tore his Achilles in the wild card round and was starting again week 1.  Not saying Fisher will, but it’s possible.  But yeah, he may never be the same.  It’s a tough injury.

Tis the season: Watch what they do, not what they say.  If you are quoting Rhule or someone involved, they are playing chess right now.  Nobody is going to say, "Boy, if we could just get that Knight over there, but we can't be sacrificing 4 pawns to do it..."

But the Jets and Dolphins have other options---so they will not give up too much to get him when they can get Wilson.  Miami trading Tua for Watson and a first rounder is a bit risky--but the Panthers are offering 3 first rounders.  They can trade with Carolina, get the 8th pick and maybe some players, and they can also trade the first rounders with Atlanta, for example,, and they would get Fields and Atlanta could move back age grab Jones (Ryan's replacement) or Fields or Mond....

So the Panthers are the only team in the top 8 who will go "all in".  Spoiler alert--watch Denver.

Watson to Atlanta does make some sense. Houston would probably end up with Ryan as a bridge or stopgap, a top five pick this year to take a young QB or other top talent, other picks and players as well. Watson would then go home to Georgia and be the hometown hero. Atlanta gets to reload with a top young QB on a long term contract and sell a ton of jerseys and other merch.

If that was to happen, this place would have a meltdown of epic proportions.

I'm not absolutely convinced any of the runner-ups to Trevor Lawrence are going to be franchise quarterbacks.

It'd certainly be great to get a franchise quarterback, but I'm not fully sold on the idea that this will be the year that happens.

I agree, which is why I'm on board with giving up whatever it takes to get Watson. You can say what you just said for every draft class, every year. I'd rather bet the farm on as proven a commodity as you'll ever find available for trade at QB.

Neither Josh or Lamar have proven anything that Watson hasn't. In fact, Watson beat Allen in the playoffs last year with a worse team around him than what Allen had.

I am reading that 2 QB's that are 24 years old have room for improvement, while a 25 year old doesn't?

You've still got to be able to build around him though.

I don't buy the notion that we're just a quarterback away from being a contending team, especially looking at the offensive line that'd be charged with protecting that franchise quarterback.

If I thought we were a more complete team, I could get on board with this idea. As it is, I can't.

Few would have thought Tampa Bay was a quarterback away just a couple years ago. If it's Watson or someone we draft it all hinges on who we add along the lines. The league is changing before our eyes we just have to begin investing in the right positions. Doubling down on running back and linebacker only a year after major investments isn't part of that formula though.
