If Darnold is a flop like Teddy was, is Rhule officially on the hot seat?

Let's say that Darnold flops. Does Rhule enter 2022 on the hot seat?

Absolutely not. Teddy was a disaster of a decision. Darnold is a low cost calculated risk based on the unlikelihood we’re able to get a better QB in the draft. Even if Darnold fails it wasn’t a bad decision at the time.

Teddy - Had promise, short term deal. 

Darnold or Fields - Darnold low risk high reward. Fields has the tools. 

2022 QB - This will be Rhule's last chance in my opinion to make sure he completes his contract and gets an extension.

Not on the hot seat, especially with that contract, but if we don't start the 2022 season with our future on the roster, yikes. 

Then the question of, "what the hell have we been doing for 3 years?", will be a valid question and some seats should be warming.  Whether it be an established vet or a rookie in 2022, our franchise QB needs to be here.

If the team keeps games close and loses because of QB play then he shouldn't be on the hot seat. If all 3 phases of the team are a dumpster fire, then yes he should be on the hot seat.

It isn't his fault we don't have a franchise QB.

i think this would be more an indictment of fitts (and tepper by extension) than rhule unless teddy and then darnold have jewel-encrusted fingers in a couple years

you gotta give coaches that show progress 3-5 years. By then the team should made up entirely of their decisions and students.

He didn’t give up enough for this to, in isolation, put him in the hot seat, but it’d definitely figure into the calculus.

If Darnold flops, potentially giving us a top 3 pick......at this point, the next QB he picks would be his last. I would like to think, since he signed a 10 year deal or however long that was. So he'd be safe but it would be his last chance I'd think, so yeah, I guess it would be the hot seat.
