Verge's 2021 Mock Draft

Mac Jones going as QB3 would make me question so many things about life.

I just don't see a world where he is above QB5.  I wouldn't complain.  It means a better nonQB prospect gets pushed down to Carolina.  But it will basically prove nearly every football pundit wrong if Mac goes 3.

I wouldn't have minded Carolina getting Mac Jones.  In the 2nd round.

Nice work, very logical mock.

Cincy goes Sewell

Miami goes Pitts

Pick 7 goes QB

Do we go Chase or Slater

I really haven't thought about Chase being there at 8, but if 5 QBs go top 8 it is a possibility.

Man, if Chase is there at 8, he would be hard to turn down. Imagine that WR corps! If you let Chase slip by and grab Slater or whomever, I could see regretting that for years to come. If Chase is still there and you really do not want to make that pick, I would try to to trade down and get equal (or better) value with more picks. Heck, if you drop to 10 or 11ish, you still may get a shot at Slater.

Also, can you imagine what NE would give up to come up from 15 to 8 if Lance and/or Fields are still on the board? We could still get one of the top 3 OTs or one of the top CBs, along with a haul from NE. Would be tempting.

Bill doesn't move up generally. He is usually moving back and acquiring assets.

@Verge

Firstly, thanks for all the posts and insights been really interesting to follow!

Secondly, who are the guys you think we're eyeing for the second round? I'm aware about Richie Grant and how much Rhule likes him but who do you think we could take?

I should be doing the Panther 7 round one tomorrow

We would take Chase over Slater I think

I really like Leatherwood or Onwuzurike in the 2nd if that happens.

I saw an interview with Leatherwood today where he stated he sees himself as a LT. I wonder how open hell be too kicking inside.

Nice job on the mock. What's the cost to jump from 8 to 7? I'm a believer in Fields. I'd hate to see him go off the board one pick before ours.

I could easily see Mond or Mills in the first round. We should definitely get therapy.

I saw a take where Mond and Mills draft stock had improved.  Mills is intriguing.  He would be the perfect backup/insurance policy for Darnold.  Seems to have the tools and Brady could take his time with him. Take him with the 2nd pick.   Though I prefer Creed Humphrey in the 2nd.  Mills would not make my upset.

Right. No other team would draft Jones over Fields and Lance

depending on your scheme and how quickly you want a rookie to play....I could accept a team taking Mac over Lance.

Some QBs just aren't fits and are fits in certain offenses.

A very very good talent will be there in the 2nd for us.  I'm just as excited about that as our first.

    • One thing this got me thinking, is if Canales got some of the best seasons out of Baker/Geno/etc, how long before Tepper asks him his true assessment of Bryce? Obviously it has to be sometime during or after camp once pads are on
    • Here is the bottom line---if you assume that the offense was bad because Young was bad, then that position is understandable.  If you assume Young was bad because the offense was bad, that is understandable.   Personally, I think Bryce will improve a lot in 2024.   There just aren't too many rookie (or veteran) QBs who would have done well under these circumstances....full stop.  I have NEVER heard so many different experts (game announces throughout the season) analysis experts, talk so much about a team's receivers not getting separation.  Experts know how important this is because the qb has about a second to get the ball in that window--we did not have any windows.  Furthermore, we had 7 different LGs and 8 different RGs.  62 sacks, most up the middle.  So he had people in his face with no open receivers.  And people are saying, Bryce sucks!!  My question is this:  What is he supposed to do?  Make sure his plant foot is secure and he is holding the ball to his ear?
    • I mean we can't really discuss WR's or Centers or whatever without mentioning the QB situation. Not sure what the optimists are grasping at. He was incognito all offseason except for a couple celebrity camp/youth camp appearances. Thielen was in the weight room every time they put out any footage inside the building. I think being the number 1 pick and QB1 comes with more weight than just showing up a day before voluntary workouts, no pun intended. If Cam had done the bare minimum imagine how much he would have been killed on here
