He’s actually been the most accurate NFL analyst these past two seasons when it comes to mock drafts, for whatever that’s worth.

He only makes one mock draft FYI

But even he admits here: "As I wrote last week, Carolina hates the fact that the franchise has averaged 6.2 picks per draft in the last eight years when the average team has 8.1. I’m not sure at all they’d use the pick here on Fields, because they’re truly optimistic about Sam Darnold."

He admits that he's only speculating and immediately argues against his own pick with sound logic. If I publicly state a pick I'm confident of I do not go on to explain why my pick makes zero sense.

Peter King sucks but this pick would make me feel hopeful about 2021. Will Grier and PJ Walker are not unknowns we have seen them in action so a quarterback in one of the early rounds seems inevitable even if Fields isn't available. I know the team is talking up Sam as they should be but they are not rolling the dice with just Darnold without going down swinging on draft night.

Almost has to be the pick of he is there.  I definitely start Darnold and if he plays well he becomes a major asset.  With these rookie QB contracts having Fields as the backup is fine.  Its not like picking up Darnolds option breaks the bank here.  Darnold starting and Fields waiting in the wings is an amazing QB situation IMO.

    • Joe Person   @josephperson · 16m     Panthers become the 1st team this yr with 5 weekly winners: Rico Dowdle, Ryan Fitzgerald, Sam Martin, Tre'von Moehrig and Bryce. Panthers last did that in 2017: Cam Newton, Julius Peppers, Luke Kuechly, Jonathan Stewart and Damiere Byrd.
    • Gotta wonder if Smitty's brain has turned to mush with how hard he played in the NFL
    • OK, fair enough--however, since my point was that drafting a QB in the top 10 is stupid, if you consider the players who were not drafted in the top 10 or those who WERE drafted in the top 10 and did not secure starting positions with the team that drafted them, you should see the point.  Is it smart to draft a QB in the top 10 when only 4 are still starting for the team that drafted them.  Next, consider that half of that number, 2, were drafted outside the first round.  Next, there are 4 (Goff, Mayfield, Jones, and Darnold) who are starting on other teams after busting.   That number could increase as Arizona seems ready to move on from Murray, Miami is not sold on Tua, and jacksonville is still waiting for Trevor to start looking elite.  Bryce?   So to answer your question, there are MANY more QBs in the NFL who have busted and become starters on other rosters, were drafted after day 1, or are still on the cusp than the four who have become elite.  I thought that point was made.
