As far as I can remember, wilfork is the only one of this new class to win a superbowl. Not having a ring was always going to be Steve's biggest weakness concerning HOF chances.

I think he has a great chance, but it needs to happen soon I think as the voters will need to remember smith's physicality and his confidence and personality to understand his greatness.

Mathis got a ring

Only 2 players in NFL history have more yards from scrimmage than Smitty.

Jerry Rice and Tim Brown.

I think he gets in but I don't think he's first ballot. They tend to reserve first ballot entries for the guys in GOAT conversations.

I think Steve is underrated. Put him with an above average QB for most of his career and if he doesn't miss time being injured, he is in the conversation for GOAT.

How about this?  With no real QB, no #2 to take coverage, a run 1st, ball control offense, Smitty rewrote the record books.  Triple Crown winner.  Hadn't been done for 13 years when Steve did it.  Far as I know, hasn't happened since.

Have we mentioned the rules changes?  You know they used to just knock the poo out of a WR in the air?
