I think there is a big difference in “the secret being out” and getting run into by Dallas with one of your best run defenders out of the game. Zeke, Pollard and that line are maybe the best running game in the league. They just ran it on us without YGM…Idt other teams do that to us. Kamara and the Saints couldn’t. Laremy Tunsil, David Johnson and the Texans couldn’t. Just think it was a perfect storm.

YGM isn't the answer.  You're putting the onus for stopping Zeke on a guy with 12 career tackles in 14 games.  Frankly, I'm not sure he belongs on our roster yet.  Of course he still has a chance to come good, but he hasn't shown anything more than promise at this point.

I agree, Dallas has a great run game, as evidenced by their YBC being around 4.  But we've seen it over and over, we've heard the phrase "It's a copycat league".  Watch.  Teams are going to run power at us.  Often.

It will be far less effective in games where we have a good lead.  Far more effective in games where we are chasing it.

I don't get the we are small comment. Sure our OLBs are not large but Brown is 320 and 6' 5". Jones is 320 and 6'4"

as well. Fox is 6'3" and light at 260.  Nixon is 6'3" and 305. We are fast and athletic but not really small in the middle which is where all those cutback runs went. Brown was getting tossed and Jones was getting pushed as well. It was poor technique more than size to me. We played small but we shouldn't have.

Dallas sure looked bigger than us…may be because they lined up with multiple TE and and ran it right at us

Yep, said something similar in another thread.  Our defense is built to play with a lead, very much the way the Manning Colts built their defense.  Not as big, but very very fast and able to get after the QB.  That was definitely how you beat Freeney, you ran at him, all game long.

This was the first time our defense was asked to stop a team from running when the other team had the lead and could afford to just run and grind clock.  I'm unsurprised that we got gashed.  Derek Brown is a man, but when he's the only anchor you've got, it's not enough.

It's kinda like the secret is out now.  You can run at this defense, but you cannot run away from them.

The good news is that not every team has the Cowboys interior O-Line and Zeke Elliot.

I feel good about the team. I think with our schedule we can make it to the playoffs, but I think the push for greatness is next year. You need one more linebacker and just one more solid O-lineman ( I think Christensen will be a solid starter by next year ) and we will be rolling.

WTF is with these damn scrolling ads. JFC, it was a lot of work to get to the reply box and even now I can’t see what I quoted. SMH.

Anyway, I remember a prior discussion about this and IMHO the starting OL doesn’t need the versatility as much as the backups. If you only have 3 backups active like we seem to be doing, then you need a guy who can play both Gs and a guy who can play both Ts. The starting LG can be horrific at C and RG as long as he’s awesome at LG. Don’t care about his versatility if he’s playing because he’s going to stay there.

Yes, starters on the OL don't need to be versatile, they just need to be REALLY good at their specific position. Backups should be versatile and need to be, until they are good enough at one job to take the starting role at that position over as their own.

Not many teams have power rbs like Zeke, so u not going to see much power from teams coming up.

There are very few teams that can do what Dallas did to us. They can still play smashmouth football because they have the prototypical RB and the prototypical line to do it. Not a lot of teams are built like that (Browns, Titans, and Vikings come to mind). That's why I don't like the Vikings matchup in two weeks. They have the weapons, line, and RB to replicate what Dallas did and they've been competitive in every one of their games this year. A lot better than their record indicates.

As for us, we'll be fine (unless the refs continue to allow teams to hold all they want against us). Refs were obviously against us from the start, our defense picked their absolute worst day to have a bad tackling day, were without CMC and Horn and with a gimpy Shaq and Reddick, had our typical 3rd quarter meltdown, and STILL only lost by a TD + 2 point conversion that we would have gotten if not for the most BS "forward progression" call of all time causing us to lose out on a fumble.

About the refs,  I don't think they'll provide the same "help" to the Vikings that they did for the Cowboys.

And it's that reason that a victory isn't out of the realm of possibility.

It will be tough but it's still doable to get a win.

Some of you think that we are completely done. We aren't. Our schedule is a cake walk for weeks now. It's not like that Thursday Night Shittsburgh game in 2018 where we were thoroughly exposed. We've been in the spotlight for two weeks. People see we don't have a line, but the defense will be fine. Still should have won Sunday. If the Eagles blow us out, then maybe get more concerned. We are 3-1. 13 games left.

    • Never been. Going to a concert there Thursday night. Decent tailgating opportunities in the parking area or no? I see people are going to the beer hall to grab a beer to get their parking validated. Seems like a good plan to me. I'd like to smoke a brisket and do a decent spread of food but I just don't know if the parking setup allows for it.

    • Bryce also has a degree in psychology. He has an uncanny ability to compartmentalize things in a way that allows him to enter his second NFL season with optimism that he can still be the player who was worthy of being the No. 1 pick of the 2023 draft despite the kind of rookie year that has destroyed others in his position. Young credits that in part to his past. He graduated from the University of Alabama in three years with a degree in psychology. His father was a therapist in the mental health field for 20 years. His mother was a special education teacher, and his grandfather was a psychologist. https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/40334565/bryce-young-developing-leader-panthers-year-2
