Exactly man just because Matt Rhule doesn’t come out and say “Darnold sucks and isn’t the answer we’re definitely getting a new qb this off-season” that means they baby him. No they’re just professional football coaches using coach-speak.

This place is my therapy though so just laugh.

Oh, yes, this is setting up so comically predictable.

Everything is about self preservation and saving face

Sam and Rhule knew all the details of that shoulder before game. Sam was clear he knew the details and didn't want to talk about it.   He was given a chance not to suck again.  If he didn't suck? Well, they just keep on keeping on for another week. But he did.

So they IR him.  Rhule then can claim at the end, well you know Sam did get hurt.  Yeah, he didn't play great in a couple games but you know the injury and all that.  If he hadn't gotten hurt we probably could of gotten him back to what he was at the start of the year.   Which was great.  Remember that.   Insert a bunch of nonense.

Rhule fits well in Charlotte then. I've worked in that town and everyone is worried about CYA and that's it. It's a damn soulless environment

They are only going to use it as an excuse to shut him down a couple weeks. 2 options

A)PJ or maybe even Morgan play well and they keep him on IR for the season. Keep him as an experienced back up next year.

B) PJ and/or other back ups play terrible and they bring him in at the end of the year to show everyone he isn’t as bad as them. Still keep him as an experienced back up next year.

I wouldn't be surprised if the shoulder wasn't 100% yesterday. I was thinking as much when watching the game The first interception was a bad pass, not a bad decision. The third interception seemed like one that didn't get where it was intended to go, but could have also been a bad decision (it seemed like DJ had the back pylon though).

Why was he playing on a partially injured shoulder? Likely because he gave us the best chance to win. That should tell you what they think of PJ as a starter.

Also, slightly related, CMC didn't look to be 100% yesterday either. Seemed a tick slow. Grateful he made it out without reinjury though.

Guy is overwhelmed and needs to get his head straight. He is shell shocked (same as with the Jets). Needs to sit and go on IR and fiqure out what to do in the offseason. Personally I think he has had enough (has have the Panthers).

Must be hell in the locker room right now.

To me this smells just like the Kerry Collins debacle. Totally two different situations of course but it's looking like what will ensue is the same..a mess for the rest of the season. Hopefully better days are coming.    Man I've been saying that for a long time now..

Yeah he looked like he could barely get his arm over his head/shoulder area. Could explain all the batted down passes at the line as well. Either way he shouldn't have started and if they sit him down now for an injury a bunch of people rightfully are going to assume it's a cover for his poor play.

They never have overly protected Sam or babied him. Just a few posters are always black/white in their responses and if you don't go all in from every direction that Sam is actually the debil and agree that everything no matter what is on Sam then "Sam is  your guy"...pretty funny though.

Handing him the starting gig uncontested is about as much coddling as you going to see in the NFL especially for a unproven QB who failed with his last team.

Even Tannehill started his redemption story as the backup until Mariota got injured.

Bridgewater a much better Qb I might add had to go earn and win another starting role in Denver. Darnold was handed the keys without question even though he did nothing in New York to deserve that designation other that provide a ego notch for this coaching staff.

They didn't bring in anyone else, no quality vet, nothing. The only competition we had at the QB spot was for the backup role.

And not playing him in the preseason like he's Drew Brees or something when it's quite obvious he needed all the live reps he could get. They've been protecting Sam as much as you're going to see.
