Carolina Panthers agree to terms with Cam Newton.

My son just loved Cam "Newkun" Newton (he called him Newkun when he was 4), and he would actually watch games with me to see Cam give balls to kids in the stands.  He loved that.  Since Cam got released, he has shown considerably less interest in the Panthers.

Today, when my wife told him, he ran around the house in joy, dabbing and doing the Superman.  Who knows what the final tale will be this season, but he brings excitement and joy back to the team.  That's got to count for something!

Hope this works out well.

If not, I guess they'll call Jake and tell him to start warming up.

I hope so too, but let’s be honest, Cam has to play behind this O line. How many weeks you think he will last ? I’m not trying to be funny here.

I challenge anyone that thinks Cam is completely broken to watch his 2020 highlights. Yes, he throws bad balls occasionally not in those, he's not in MVP form, but he is a significant upgrade over what we've seen the last 5 weeks (edit: what we've seen all year tbh). He gives us a real chance to succeed... And it also puts Brady on a real fuging hot seat imo.

He had the worst supporting cast in the league. And he got them to 7-9. That was with a terrible defense missing legit starters from covid opt outs. Cam can still make poo happen.

Dude Steven A and Dan O are both saying he isn't the answer either

It depends what the question is. This isn't a QB heavy draft.

if the question is, is Cam a 5 year answer at QB... Probably not. But if the question is who is the best option for this team to compete this year with the possibility of building on that going into next year? Cam is the ONLY answer.  If Cam works out over the next few games he'll be a starter here for a few years again, lock down QB, and let us move towards finding a longer term QB at a pace that isn't desperation.

Panthers should post that.

there have been some guys around here really good at that.  It’s not up anymore but the guy who did the Jake Delhomme tribute to to the Killers song is still my favorite.

I think that may be the same guy.  We used to message back and forth because I have a background in media production, so we had that shared interest, I'm just too lazy and full of excuses to pursue my dreams with it.🤣🤣🤣

He is definitely a beast though!

Depends on if Cam and Joe can get on the same page...we can't ask Cam to pass for 25+ per game.  He will need to be a game manager with his arm, and use his legs to stay ahead of the chains.  If we can run the ball effectively, consistently...we can win games.

Ugly football, but you can win.

I'm not optimistic, but it's not out of the question.

That Pats team didn't have a lot of weapons but the OL was better than what we have here.

    • You joke, but hasn't basically the whole team been in Charlotte this past week together? I'm not one to see the random dumb stuff players put out on social media in the offseason and think it means that's ALL they've been doing and not working on their game.  But it's a little strange that all this is coming out at the same time we're seeing tons of stuff with the team in Charlotte together, even if it's just working out and not even official team OTA's or anything. So he gets a pass from me saying anything now, but if he doesn't show clear improvement this season, it then opens him up to some retroactive criticism for some things.
    • Ha-ha, I bet that went through everyone's mind.  Admittedly I don't read all the comments in a thread before I make a post. Great minds think alike!
    • Cam was hitting his stride as a QB in 2017/2018.     This is why I think stats like completion percentage are overrated. As long as a QB is clutch and makes the throws to win the game the rest doesn’t really matter. What good is a check down stat padder if they’re a choker.  Until Norv Turner (and briefly Chud) got here we put Cam in high pressure throwing situations all the time. We also ran the ball on first down more than most teams in the NFL in the Ron era. Coupled with shitty WRs, all that is expressed in his stats. I also assume Cam took the ball in his hands on many occasions rather than trust Funchess to catch the ball.    It was also never Cams job to play the game like someone else. His presence on the field dictated the game in a way that is rarely seen.  He showed he could play the dink and dunk game just before TJ Watt. That didn’t suddenly make him better than his earlier seasons. He just got put in a legit under center  passing game again for first time since his rookie year with Chud.    Ron took the quickest path to success and abused the RPO because his ass was about to get fired.    Cam never got the credit for being the cerebral player that he was. I just think when you are legitimately a human Superman, sometimes the best play is having the ball in your hands. He was a better passer than Delhomme was.
