Per Ellis/Glazer Rhule not exactly “safe”

That doesn’t even make sense.   We aren’t going to be able to hire a rockstar OC because we have a lame duck  HC….with no QB or OL.

So you are going to give Rhule a bunch of time to prove he can’t do it and then do what fire?  Fire him months from now?

Great minds and all that.

Rhule isn't safe. His departure from this team is part of a 2 year plan. He gets to close this season out for the tank. They're going to bring in an OC with NFL pedigree and take that side of the ball away from Rhule entirely. There's two reasons for it. One is that the original staff that Rhule brought with him had virtually ZERO coaches with legitimate NFL experience and as a result, couldn't lean on their history to convince their offensive players that they were still in the game plan. Rhule's biggest mistake in my opinion was his staff selection. I would almost be willing to bet that whatever higher profile offensive play caller we bring in is also going to be something on paper that indicates the line of succession will go through them. Associate Head Coach, or some other variation of the term.

Our QB situation became by degrees harder to solve with Darnold's 5th year option being picked up. I think he goes into next season in a competition with a QB we draft in the 3rd or 4th round. He'll get 3 or 4 games and if he falters again, Rhule will be fired and Darnold will be done. Whoever our OC is will take over as interim head coach, try to see what they have in the rookie and try not to worry too much about the record in order to set us up to draft the solution with an entirely new regime, cap space galore, and a damn solid defensive core to build on. It will be a high profile destination next offseason, but not this one with as muddled as the waters are now and the fact that we're kind of married to Darnold for one more season.

Darnold’s contract means nothing. You don’t torpedo a season just because you paid a lot of money.

So it sounds like to me the results can't be quickly known unless Tepper just wants a name. So the "Rockstar" label is TBD. Rhule will bring a guy in and we'll see how the offseason and things go into next year. So Rhule is probably safe for now, but could be fired mid-year, if the Offense struggles early next season.

You put in time and effort and care about the team while being honest. Let them be bitter fools. We appreciate you all the same.

I just wanted to be sure nobody thought I came in here bragging about breaking news. Seemed like somebody try to twist it that way, and that’s fine. Let’s go watch some football, these games are amazing LMAO. Y’all enjoy. Talk to you later.

This is the best cast scenario I hope for.

    • Here are more fun facts about Peyton Manning's rookie season: Peyton ranked 3rd in total passing yards, 5th in passing touchdowns, 4th in 1st-down completions, 11th in TD%, and 8th in completions that were 20 yards or more.  Now let's look at how Bryce compared to his peers: 20th in total passing yards, 28th in passing TDs, 21st in 1st-down completions, 31st in TD%, and 27th in completions that were 20 yards or more.  To put it mildly, Peyton showed plenty of flashes as a franchise quarterback. Bryce? Not so much, almost none at all, as a matter of fact. Oh, and Peyton is legit 6'4", literally head and shoulders above Bryce. I sometimes wonder if Bryce defenders are sentient at all.
