Watson Watch Day 4 - The Finale

Jonathan M. Alexander of The Charlotte Observer wrote on Thursday that the Panthers have gauged the parameters of a deal and would expect to lose three first-rounders, an additional piece of draft compensation and one or two of its young defensive starters. As for who those starters would be, the Texans may ask to chose from a promising group that includes defensive end Brian Burns, defensive tackle Derrick Brown, safety Jeremy Chinn and/or cornerback Jaycee Horn.

Such a deal could effectively be forcing the Panthers to relinquish five first-round picks—with Burns, Brown and Horn representing each of the franchise’s last three No. 1 selections. So not only would that pound a crater into their defense, but it would also kneecap their chances of filling out the surrounding holes on the roster—and there are still quite a handful of them.

Not to mention, Watson is about to enter the bulk of his four-year, $156 million contract extension. His cap hits for the remainder of that pact—keeping other positional needs in mind—will account for $40.4 million in 2022, $42.4 million in 2023, $37.4 million in 2024 and $32 million in 2025.

She's trolling the team she's paid to cover. I'd be surprised if this comes to teppers attention that she'll be employed after this season here

Yes but will he do the other two teams, they would take an even bigger hit.

It'd be funny if DW said he picked whomever over us because they "wanted me more" and "they showed they cared more". Tepp made his offer and they haven't done jack since (per se). Stubborn. Meanwhile ATL and NO maybe have gone out of their way to show they want him.

I would rather Watson not come here, so no worries. I also think ATL's culture is what ultimately sells Watson on them if he picks them.

    • You're assuming just as well.   Morgan and Canales were hired 3 days apart.  I believe it was partially due to their connections in Seattle.  i believe Tepper wanted some familiarity with his GM and HC.  It is so easy to sit back and arm-chair QB over draft picks.  You don't know what the philosophy was going into the 2024 draft.  I believe Canales and Morgan were drafting for the future.  XL and Brooks point to that philosophy. Name me one GM that is 100% on draft picks.  Just one.  You're not going to find one.    I think year one picks weren't for what can you do for me now but Potential.   XL hasn't lived up to the hype of a 1st rounder.  I think we all can agree on that. However, there still is hope he comes around.  What I believe they saw in him was his speed after the catch.  He needs to get more consistent but when he gets the ball you kind of hold your breath just a second because if he gets free, he's gone.  The Brooks pick was a signing for the future, and no one could have guessed he would re-injure the same ACL.  This makes the pick look bad but Dallas was ready to draft him later that same round.  IMO we'll have to see what happens next season before we can call this a bust. Wallace has improved each season and for a third rounder has done well.  Sanders has shown flashes and considering the pick in the 4th round it wasn't a bad pick.  His sophomore season IMO was a little bit more productive.  Smith-Wade has been a good addition and has played well.  For a 5th round pick to get as much playing time as he has.  Most picks below round 3 should take a couple of years to get up to speed.  He's been a decent player.  Crumedy, no comment We turned Barrett into Jackson.  This was an amazing move and basically got a starting CB for a 7th round pick.  Pretty shrewd if you ask me. Coker, maybe the best Free Agent signing of the 2024 draft class. So, in short, you can't say that the draft was a bust.  It isn't a home run but all but one are still on the team and outside of Brooks have made contributions to wins.  2025 draft class has been much better with almost every pick making contributions this season.  Now take Fitterer's two years and compare them to Morgan and tell me that they have the same philosophy.
    • He hasn’t led crap, he’s on loaded teams and a piece of the puzzle. And he’s he has improved drastically but it took the ultimate QB whispers in Shanahan and KOC. You put him on this Panther team and he’s back to normal Darnold
    • Slavin and Jarvis week to week. Florida cheap shots took out our two best players.  I’d start KK so he can beat the brakes off someone.
