Trade Down for Ridder?

Ridder is interesting.. I only watched him against Alabama and while he really struggled it’s hard to judge him off that game since it was men against boys in the trenches.

By all accounts he was one of if not the most consistent QB at the senior bowl…

Depending on if we land a LT in free agency, I wouldn’t be opposed to trading down and taking whoever is available out of Hamilton, Jermaine Johnson, or Zion Johnson and taking a flyer on Ridder or even Howell in the second.

I think it‘s a possibility, although I question the wisdom of trading down and risking losing him if you truly believe a QB can be a franchise player. And if you don’t, then you have no business drafting him in the first round anyways.

I guess my mindset is Willis and Pickett are just as much of a gamble than Ridder. So why not try to pickup extra draft assets and hedge some of your risk.

there is some logic in that.  Throw Howell in that also.  Between those 4 you would think at least one will be there at 15-20, and history tells us its a gamble anyway.

but what often happens is the teams will evaluate all of them and at some point one or two will become a lot more desirable to them so the teams will be scared to trade down.

I'm not sure we're drafting a QB in the first. We're picking up some decent playing pieces here and Rhule is on the hot seat for performance, not potential.

There are some interesting, but not great, QBs still out there in FA. I think we'll snag one of them before the draft and then look for a stud OT or DE in the first.

I'd been big on Linderbaum in the first, but it doesn't seem he's needed here anymore. This has been playing out quite interestingly and the loss in the Watson sweepstakes will play in our favor handily.

That actually might be a pretty spot on comparison.

I think they're very similar. Both check a lot of boxes physically. Both played their final season for very good but largely defensively driven teams. Then you watch them play and... you're just underwhelmed. The whole is less than the sum of the parts. You were just expecting considerably more.

    • I'm not sure that in a fair QB competition that Young would beat out Jones.
    • That's why I said stats aside. I lived in CO during Allen's college career and didn't have kids at the time so I watched most of his games. Bruh, I'm telling you. Balls just spraying all over the place. The type of throws where you're honestly trying to figure out who he was even trying to throw that one too. It was crazy. Richardson was inaccurate in college but at least you could tell who he was trying to throw it too. He threw a lot of early in the game Cam Newton type balls where it seemed like he was just a little too amped up and everything was a few feet high. Richardson's misses looked like they were maybe fixable with working on his footwork, release, etc. Josh Allen's misses looked like "ain't no way you're fixin' that poo, dude has a cannon equipped with no sights". LOL Huge props to the Bills for evaluating him as fixable and indeed fixing him.
    • A lot can change over the next week, but here is my best 53-man roster (note: I'm just basing this on guys on the 90 man roster currently).
