I still can't believe we drafted a long snapper with a 6th round pick.

I under the reasoning because Jason was up to retire and this kid is supposed to be the best coming out in a very long time. I do not understand wasting a pick on him though.

I’m not crazy about Pickett and I don’t hate him either. I’ve only watched his highlights and he makes a lot of NFL throws. I see him tend to under throw the ball a lot and that’s in his highlights… I do feel he’s comparable to Mac Jones in terms of being the most NFL ready prospect at QB, but doesn’t have near the physical talent of say, Willis or Fields.

At this point we have to take a chance on a QB so I’m down for Pickett, Willis, or Corral.

One thing I’ll say from watching his highlights is number 3 at WR is legit on Pitts team. I won’t be surprised if he’s a 1st rounder next year.

Pickett is basically Mac Jones 2.0. A little less polished but a bit more upside with a slightly stronger arm and significantly more mobility. Basically, not a guy who is an ideal franchise QB and if you go with him he's probably good enough that you are winning games and with a good all around team getting in the playoffs, but I don't see him leading a team to a Super Bowl victory.

If we pick him I would love to think we’ve all been joking about a kid that can ball for us minus his limitations (which aren’t just hand size)

Ok, what are in other limitations in your opinion? I usually hear arm strength but that's good and good is not a limitation. I also hear fumbles but he only had 3 last season.

The one good thing I can say about Pickett is that it shouldn't take the NFL more than a season or two to figure out what he is.  He's seen as fairly close to a completed player.  If we were to draft him, we wouldn't be another 3 years wondering if he's going to come good (I'm looking at you Malik Willis).  We would be able to make that determination quickly and either move on from him or continue building around him.

its a 6th round pick. haha. Who knows, after jansen retires, we may have another 15 year long snapper. NFL.com  actually had an article earlier this month about the importance a long time running franchise long snapper. It wasnt satire either.

I struggle with the fact that he is a four year starter that was mediocre for three years and then great for one year. Other QBs that have had a great year and then get drafted didn’t have three bad years before that, it was more a case of them not getting the chance. He got the chance but showed very little. Yes maybe the light finally came on, but I’m not sure how I feel about it coming on in year four. I also don’t feel there is much upside to him, he is who he is, and not a top 10 pick. But I’m far from a QB expert.

And Burrow has what? Half an inch on him?

1/2" is a fair amount relative to hand size.  It's a concern of mine but not the only.

And yes, Burrow doesn't wear gloves, his hands are larger, and was sacked a bagillion times with not a ton of fumbles.  He's proven it to be a non-issue for him.

But it could be a problem for Pickett just like it was for Vick, I just think it could be given he wants to wear gloves.  The threshold was always 9.5 for many coaches with some accepting 9.  This is well below and it makes me genuinely curious how he does without gloves and an upsized ball.  I'll gladly shut up if it doesn't seem to be a problem for him but hate the fact he has to wear mits and when he didn't at a slippery senior bowl practice, had slipsies with snaps and no zip.

I will begin with I'm not sure how I feel about Pickett.  Every qb in this class has strengths and question marks.   One or two will most likely end up being good qbs, but which ones seems like anybody's guess.  The thing I do find funny is how people keep randomly saying Pickett's athleticism is a liability.   Here are his numbers compared to a qb most people on here think is especially athletic.

    • I originally hated the Miller deal but with the cap projected to rise nearly $10M next season the Canes struck some pretty good deals between Miller and Ehlers. Most of the team is locked in for the next few years. Nikishin will need an extension probably in the $6M AAV range. And Blake will need one if we don’t move him. Personally I’d move Blake, picks, and any prospect not named Nikishin/Nadeau/Artamonov for McTavish as I don’t see any any of the big time players moving teams next year. Realistically the Hurricanes should just target Gustavsson next year to fix the goal tending issue. But I’m all for moving Blake, picks, and prospects for McTavish this year. Ehlers - Aho - Jarvis Svechnikov - McTavish - Stankoven Martinook - Staal - Carrier Hall - Kotkaniemi - Robinson Jost - Jankowski Slavin - Miller Nikishin - Chatfield Gostisbehere - Walker Reilly Andersen Kochetkov I’d do Blake, Felix-Unger-Sorum, and 27 2nd for McTavish.
    • Very true on the length but stuff like this is never where we shine. We aren’t a good team at drafting.
    • Homerism aside, the more I see from Dan, the more impressed I am.  His player evaluation instincts. Last year his 2 premier FA signings, Hunt and Lewis COMPLETELY changed the line and I have a feeling his success in choosing blue chip guys will continue.  Look at the panthers’s rep for FA signings in the past. By and large, it’s been guys 1 year past their prime who had an injury and suckered our GM in to a crippling contract. We never get nice things. When was the last time this team signed 2 young blue chip studs  in the same offseason to contracts worthy of their impact? Ever?  Im telling y’all, players respect and trust Morgan.
