If you read what they wrote they explain that this isn't a rating it's just the results of a test they did using a formula based on where the players was drafted compared to where he had them rated. In that comparison the Panthers did very well and killed it. All picks but 4 added value but picks 2, 5, 6 scored big with our last pick scoring the highest. He had him as a 4th and we got him in the 7th. They also add Corral as a late 1st and we got him in the late 3rd. He also says Ikey, while drafted where they had him, filled such a huge need for Carolina that the pic had extra value to the team.

"Later on, the team added some legitimate athletes with upside, but this draft is about the first two picks. Whether by luck or by design, the Panthers were able to come out of this draft with an elite player at No. 6 overall and a quarterback with starting potential. That’s not something that seemed possible heading into the event. "

Get ready for DJ and CMC to be used very similarly to Deebo. The piece we were missing to be able to utilize either player like that was a mobile tackle. Ekwonu is going to be used like Trent Williams and is going to be a complete game changer for this team. Corral is going to flourish bc of it. It’s about to be exciting in Charlotte. Get ready.

Could just be two different writers.  Each probably saw it a little differently, or CBS could have even requested varying grades/opinions.

I'll never forget a story Matthew Berry told of one of his early appearances on ESPN. He and another, more experienced, analyst were discussing the upcoming season. The host asked the experienced analyst his opinion on a player's fantasy outlook. The experienced analyst gave a favorable outlook backed up with stats. Then the host turned to Berry. Berry also had a favorable outlook with similar stats. At that point, according to Berry, the producer stopped the taping, and said they both couldn't have the same opinion, it wouldn't make for compelling TV. The experienced analyst said 'no problem' and they redid the segment. This time when the host asked the experienced analyst for his outlook, the experienced analyst gave a pessimistic outlook on the player's season backed up with a different set of stats. 

Berry learned two important lessons. You can talk up or down a player by choosing the right set of stats and always be prepared to do either.
