Wasted a 3rd on Corral. This FO continues to make strange moves.

Not really. Think about it. There’s no guarantee Baker will be resigned here when he hits FA, and clearly the coaching staff doesn’t want to rush Corral’s development by starting him before he’s ready. Bring in a young, solid QB to start and let Corral backup for a season. Only giving up a conditional 5th and $5M is icing on the cake.

That's short term thinking.

So after this year, you either have to extend Baker for starting QB money, or you have to go into 2023 with Corral as essentially a rookie after getting very few reps in 2022.

Again, we just keep creating headaches for ourselves and pissing away draft capital.

NFLN reporting a QB competition, so this isn't happening. If Darnold was going to the Browns, he would have been part of the trade.

With both Darnold and Baker in camp, there will be very few reps for Matt to develop.

I think once Baker clearly beats Darnold then Matt and Darnold will probably get equal reps if not Matt getting more.  This is a season to groom Matt and let him learn the playbook and the vocabulary and go through mental reps and if he continues to improve and develop their hope is for him to step into the starting qb spot next season.  Thats my take anyways.

Yea that's honestly what I'm most concerned about.  It's the opportunity cost of playing Mayfield for a season, and perhaps not seeing what we have in Corral at all.

We can just throw him out there the last 2 games behind a busted OL and then cut him a couple years later when he looks better than PJ in the preseason.

It’s what we did to our last 3rd round QB.

Corral is 3rd round QB... lol at all of you thinking he was gonna start this year. Furthermore sitting him for a year wont hurt him.  And yes they will see plenty of him IN PRACTICE.  Which is perfect.  Throwing a mid round talent right into the fire is a great way to ruin a prospect.

Care to give an example of a third rounder that sat and developed?  Cousins is the only one that comes to mind and that was a long time ago.  However I can think of Dak, Russell and Carr that were drafted in the 2nd or 3rd and could come in and play right off the bat.  If they can play they can play, sitting a qb is a strategy from yesteryear

Then he starts. Cut Darnold or trade if possible and let Baker and Corral shoot it out.

People are forgetting the fact that Matt said himself hes got to get the mental aspect of it all down before he even feels ready himself.  Everyone keeps wanting to throw him out there anyways expecting miracles.   Fans need to be patient and let him learn.

    • Especially with no other major sports in the area other than UNCW basketball and soccer. It's a good 2 1/2 hour drive just to catch a collegiate football game. If this new arena were built I would hope it also includes an Adult League - I would join up and time allowing would be more than happy to help coach some youth teams. 😄
    • That was real fear in his eyes when the rope was being taken. My younger days, I had my best friend that happened to be black come over all the time. I had the nicest bulldog on the planet, my friend Damon was scared to death of him. His grandmother and daddy taught him to fear all dawgs and seen the same fear in his face and voice.    I think alllll young kids should take swimming lessons and not fear the water. Very thankful my parents did this, I no longer get in the ocean since its 50% sewage. But I enjoyed all the lakes, pools, and oceans I swam in.
    • My personal opinion is the non-guaranteed contract is the main reason for NFL success. MLB and NBA players are on cruise control after their big contracts and it shows in the product.  NFL is each year you are fighting for your job. Same for the majority of the public.... You get lazy or try to coast after the 100+ million contract, your ass will be cut within 1-2 years. Then the next one will not even touch 100 million+. Besides a few NBA players like Kobe was coming for blood with a 300 million contract or 1 doll hair deal. Brandy Beal just reached a buyout where he was getting 110 million, many other cases..... I dare say his name for the hornets guy..... MLB sooo many times as well.    If the NFL starts fully guaranteeing all contracts, Id have a new hobby to fill the hours of entertainment NFL gave me.
