Lisa McCaffery on CMC trade rumors

CMC's dad had a long productive NFL career but his career didn't truly takeoff until he landed in a well ran organization with an elite QB on the roster.

I would honestly be flat out shocked if his family wasn't advising him to try to get out. You have your millions now. If you care about the game and your legacy within the game you need to get out. It's why I've also been saying that I honestly think there's a good chance that CMC has been missing all this time with nagging injuries based on a conscious decision to preserve his body. Why beat yourself to hell playing for an awful team when you've already got that bag in the form of your fat contract?

Don't be shocked if CMC emerges elsewhere playing for a contender and suddenly is much more durable than he's been since getting paid.

I just don't see how anyone can watch CMC on game days throughout his entire career (including after getting his extension) and suggest he's the type of guy who gets paid and then checks out for self-preservation.  The dude gives it 150% on every snap and does not play like a guy trying to preserve his body.  Elflein shared a story about how CMC came into the training room in last year's game against the Saints (soon after his "fat contract") violently vomiting with full body cramps, got a quick IV, and then went back in to finish handling his usual 30 touches/game.

If I were to make a list of possible reasons for CMC's significant injury history/missed games over the last couple seasons, my list (in order of likelihood) would go:

1) He's legit building up nagging injuries due to his 479 touches per game because of how overly reliant our offense is on him (including continuously running him up the gut like a 250-pound battering ram)

2) Rhule putting him on IR prematurely to build an excuse for his failures (unlike CMC, Rhule has shown time and time again of being fueled by self-preservation)

THEN a distant 3rd would be CMC playing up the injuries to avoid sacrificing his body for a losing team.

Seems like a natural response to a coaching change, and trade rumors.

This doesn’t tell us anything. Robbie just got traded too. Of course don’t buy a ticket yet.

This doesn’t confirm he is being traded at all. There’s just smoke about it, and his family (Mom) is just reacting accordingly.

I love CMC but at this point would also love to see him on a good team in the playoffs.  If the Panthers could somehow get a 1st round pick and maybe a later round pick, etc ..... I make the trade.  The reason I like having another teams 1st (even if later in the round) is it could possibly be used as part of a trade up in draft if needed to get a specific QB they really like.

that's probably called hope.  I mean, if I was CMC I would hope I got traded.  This is his prime and it's going to lead to nothing pending he doesn't get traded and out.

Yeah, I mean why would he want to go through another potential rebuild? Go through what will be his 5th head coach.

If he wants to go, I hope no one wouldn't understand.

    • Rico walking is no big deal. I'll take a healthy 2024 Hubbard over Rico any time and losing Mays is, again, no a big deal.  Young is signed for what, $35M for the next two years? Say he wants $50M but the FO doesn't. If they put the franchise tag on him, that would be around $55? So basically they are getting Young for the next 3 years for an average of $30M per year. Putting the franchise tag on him wouldn't be my first choice but it gives them an option that wouldn't be locking him into a long term, $50M contract. I'm not suggestion they do that. Just that the option will be there should they get to that point. Hunt is on a 5 year deal which is done in 28 so he either restructures or is gone anyway. Moton will be 35 by then and will either be gone or have diminished playing time. Neither of those players has anything to do with getting Young a contract. The O line is way overpaid anyway. Hopefully by the time they are gone, Freeling and Hecht will be developed and Ickey will be healthy. Young was benched his second year and only got his job back because Dalton was injured. Not sure how you can call that entitled. And I would NOT say putting a rookie QB on a team with no receivers, tight ends or O lineman and then being put with a coach who never wanted you and is fired mid season, is a definition of luck. As far as competition, no team is going to bring in competition for a QB picked first overall - especially given the capital that was given up to get him.
    • With apologies to Lady Cowboy fan, any day we can screw over the Cowboys is a GOOD day…
    • Been here since 2014ish. Good times. Its a shame Zod wont sell, it wouldnt take that much effort to get this place back into shape.
