Receiver Tracking Metrics: DJ Moore

DJ is not looking good by these metrics - not open and not making the catch. 

This jives with my re-watches and analysis. DJ is not playing as well as he's capable, but who is? CMC would have 600 yards with a better run scheme and offense. 

As with Mayfield and CMC's usage, I blame Rhule/McAdoo for misusing talent, not playing to strengths, instead playing to weaknesses.

I don’t think any honest evaluation of DJ can be made with our current OC/QB situation.  It’s like blaming the meat for stinking when your freezer dies.  
 

Who else does any defense really have to cover in the secondary?  Honestly, do they even have to cover DJ, decent odds the pass doesn’t arrive at all or on time even if they ignored him.

If our QB would throw a 10-yards-in-the-air pass more than twice a game, maybe we could see some better stats out of DJ.

For all the folks defending him, please rewatch the tape.  Getting open is a matter of high effort on every play, regardless if you are the intended target or not.  DJ is not doing that, and it's not the first time he's been lazy.

DJ has the ability to be Steve Smith.  But he's not playing NEARLY at the effort level of 89.  He's not even playing at the level he has shown in the past.

If we see these sorts of metrics, the coaching staff sees them.  And then it becomes a loop.  Staff sees he isn't getting open, they call fewer plays for him, so his effort goes down, and he gets open less, staff sees . . . etc. 

DJ can control one thing:  his effort.  It's currently not there and it's very fair to call it out, even when we like the player.

Lots of people look bad on a bad team. Mcadoo is the worst. Should never have a job in the NFL again. There’s a reason he was practically unemployed the last few years. The only way he got a job was with a desperate college coach who had to have someone.

Moore has never had the route running skills of a true WR1. He should not lead a receiving room, he should be a part of it. If he could play with a true WR1, then we may see him reach a higher ceiling, but we may have seen his ceiling trying to play as a WR1.

DJ not getting open in McAdoo’s predictable RPO junk isn’t really about DJ though 

DJ has the Peppers issue.  His lack of outward emotion is something fans use against him.

Tbh DJ is known for this. Unless he has a good QB to push him he goes through the motions. It's why he will never be a elite player. You still have to build your craft even though others around you aren't. I think that's why Steve Smith pushed him when he was young because he saw the potential but the work ethic really isn't there.

You can’t ignore the elephant in the room. DJ has been coasting. Hopefully he gets it together because it isn't a good look after how upset he got this summer when people on social media were doubting his game. My guy you're literally proving people right. Step up.
