Jay Glazer claims Panthers asked him if Payton would come here

So, we are asking a pregame announcer on what we should do to rebuild the team? I mean even though Payton would be a great coaching he's still under contract with a division opponent. No way they'd ever let him come here. Payton isn't dumb if he was a free agent coach then yes, he'd absolutely want to come here because he knows Tepper would make him the highest paid coach in the league, but he knows for us to get him from the saints the amount we would have to pay would cripple the team and leave him with nothing to work with once he would get here.

That and the only way the Saints would deal him within the division is for an absolute king's ransom. Sean Payton is going to the Chargers IMO.

I believe him. I mean, it's not like they can just call up Payton and ask him. Using someone like Glazier as a go-between would make sense.

And as I've said from the start: fug giving up ANYTHING to a division rival just to hire a new head coach.

Glazer as a source? I don't think we need to hear it from him that this was a longshot at best. He's going to a big market likely on the west coast and a contender.

I’m not a fan of forcing people to coach the Panthers anymore. Didn’t work for Rhule and won’t work for Payton

That is great news. The only thing that I would hate more than losing guys like McCaffrey would hiring that weasel and asshole as coach.

I think Payton is still under contract with New Orleans and thus it would be tampering for the Panthers to tal to him directly. It is not tampering to talk to others with a close connection to someone under contract. Payton will want a big market job with a franchise QB. That is not Carolina.

Glazer is a connected guy. prob not a bad idea to get his opinion. He and Payton are probably friends.
