Well according to Daniel Jeremiah we are halfway to your hopes.

Daniel Jeremiah 2023 NFL mock draft 1.0: Texans, Ravens among four teams selecting quarterbacks

Not to derail the thread but, shocked that Atlanta passes on Stroud, and Kincaid is taken ahead of Mayer.

He he he.  Kids and their mock drafts.

If we can get Stroud, especially without trading up, that would be nice. Payton and Richardson is very intriguing, though we would likely run with a vet next season. But 2-3 years from now, I would be interested to see what that combo could do.

If Stroud drops to us, its a no brainer like Icky was.  I'm not that big on Richardson, but if anyone can help him develop into a good NFL QB its Payton.

I'm going to laugh so hard if come next season it's Peyton and Darnold starting the season.  This place will be hilarious to watch the meltdowns.

If we trade assets for Sean Payton I'd put the odds of Darnold being the starter for 2023 at about 1%

Opt 2 is my preference out of that list. I want a young OC to pair with a young QB and hopefully build a dynasty.

A young OC as HC and a good young QB who is not clutch does not make for a dynasty.

They have to win the SB in 3 to 5 seasons. There have only been 2 OCs who have not been to a conference championship game and won a SB. They did however study under championship coaches for over half a decade and have been to the playoffs consistently.

Steichen has been to the playoffs 1 time as a coach. He has never been to a conference championship game. He has not studied under a championship HC.

Gruden and Gibbs are the successful examples and they both needed 30 year-old QBs in Joe Theismann, Rich Gannon, and Brad Johnson to achieve that success as young OCs. Young drafted QBs paired with successful older OCs who have been to a conference championship have not happened for championship teams. The closest you get is drafting Aaron Rodgers and sitting behind a HoF QB for multiple seasons. McCarthy was 6 years older when hired and 10+ years deeper in coaching experience with a conference championship game under his belt.

Steichen needs more time if he does not come up big in the playoffs this season. Otherwise, he is just using the Panthers HC position as a stepping stone for his 2nd chance in the NFL. Even if Steichen becomes the HC, you will want to pair him with a QB who has proven he can win and go to the playoffs on the NFL level - like a David Carr.

You said Icky was a bust and Aqeel Glass was a top QB in the draft last year. I don’t have time for you and your nonsense.

I sincerely hope you meant Derek Carr.

Otherwise, you are dead to me.

    • CHARLOTTE — Things happen fast in a draft room, once they eventually happen. One phone call, 20 seconds in duration. Maybe 15. A string of numbers read aloud as they're scribbled on a pad so the guy next to you can hear them. Click. "Let's do that," and then a quick "call-it-in" and a deal. Or minutes of intense discussion and consultation and debate, but then a casual "Yeah, the defensive tackle," and that's that and you're onto the next thing. https://www.panthers.com/news/months-of-prep-moments-of-action-2024-dan-morgan-carolina-panthers-nfl-draft

    • If the Panthers move, this Carolina Huddle forum should be dissolved too. No Panthers, no Huddle. I'm all for the Panthers staying, suckage or not. It's better to have a team to root for than no team at all. It's bad now but I'm holding out hope for better days. Cleveland has sucked for decades and even though it took a while they managed to be somewhat relevant and made the playoffs. At the same time, all these citizens who show up to voice their opinion about the approval probably have never watched a single panthers football game and just don't want to pay any taxes.
