Reich New Head Coach

I keep seeing people on social media saying that Wilks won't last long until getting hired someone, I think everyone is going to be surprised. He was the definition of a mediocre defensive coordinator and while he is amazing at inspiring a team, I just don't think that he has the connections or skills to make him a legit HC candidate.

One of the green flags about Reich is the fact that a ton of elite teams were ready to take him as their OC if we didn't hire him. He's super well respected around the league. I get the argument for wanting a younger HC instead of a 60-year-old, but I'm just happy to have someone we know is a capable coach and has earned a lot of respect around the league.

Lmao the guy went 6-6 not 12-0

This tweet is unfortunate.

Wilks did a lot for this team and was on the precipice of the playoffs. If he wins that TB game, we're in the playoffs and I think there's no way he isn't being announced as HC before January 26th.

He didn't, there were true concerns that even most fans can see pretty easily.

Wilks makes good $$$ in the NFL with/without head coaching job. I don't feel bad for him one bit lol and I'm one of the people who was on board with him being the head coach.  He will have a job on a team in 2023 so he isn't going hungry.

Am I the only one both really happy for Reich but also really depressed for Wilks? Being in his shoes I'd feel terrible right now.

No, you're not. I really feel bad for him because I thought he did enough to warrant another shot here. But its not my money and not my team. I understand the decision they made based on what Tepper said after the Rhule firing.  He wanted an experiened head coach  with an offensive background. He got the right man that fits that description.

Agree.  I'm thinking Reich may be less inclined to take Anthony Richardson than some of the other candidates.  Hasn't he always had drop back passers rather than ROP types?

Good question.  I really don't know what type of qb he would draft as I'm not sure he ever got the chance to draft his own.

The math here was simple. Beat the Bucs, be the coach. He didn't, so he isn't.

I will always respect the hell out of him and be grateful that we played meaningful games in a season that Rhule tried to destroy. But the opportunity was there to take this team to its next level.

Instead we punted on 4th and short from midfield and lost to the ghost of Tom Brady throwing "F it, run straight and fast" balls to Mike Evans.

    • Just another 1st round QB that never paid off for the team that drafted them or traded for them. It's been like this since the SB began. 36 QBs have now won the SB & only 13 of them have been 1st rounders winning with their original team. Namath 1968, Griese 1972, Bradshaw 1974, McMahon 1985, Simms 1986, Aikman 1992, Elway 1997, Roethlisberger 2005, P.Manning 2006, E.Manning 2007, Rodgers 2010, Flacco 2012, & Mahomes 2019. Only 3 have taken longer than 5 seasons as the starter to win a SB.  4  6  5  4  6  4  15  2  9  4  3  5  2 [the years it takes for these 1st round QBs] 5  1  4  1  3  1  1  2  3  4  [10 of the 36 have won a chip with their 1st team that haven't been drafted in the 1st round. These are the years it took them as a starter] What stands out? Only 2 of these QBs have lost their first championship appearance. Elway took 4 years as a 1st rounder & Hurts took 2 years as a 2nd rounder. Of the 10 non-1st round QBs, 2 are 2nd rounders, 3 are 3rd rounders, 5 are 6th rounders or later. Please stop wasting time on drafting 1st round QBs with such a high failure rate. The remaining 13 QBs are traded or free agent signings. Stafford, Favre, Young, Williams and Dawson are the 5 trades. Peyton Manning & Tom Brady also won for teams as free agents on a short stay as well as being drafted. The lesson here is don't waste your franchise on farming up 1st rounders for the league, and steer clear of trading for a franchise QB. Stick to finding that championship QB by drafting them outside of the 1st round or through free agency.
    • I lost most of the respect I had for Fox in 2010. He should have resigned if he hated the job that much. Instead he stuck for his paycheck and let stuff go to hell.    I burned out on Ron too but my deal breaker issue with him was away from football and after he was gone from the Panthers. He may have been out of his depth but never quit on us.
    • From where they were one year ago to now, pretty incredible. I mean, say what you want about Vrabel he is no Jerrod Mayo.
