From what I saw watching one of the highlight videos someone posted here, did not look like AR ever set his feet when he threw. Some good coaching and a team around him, and he may be a very good QB (imagine if Cam had had those things).   He is certainly an intriguing prospect.

I guess I should have posted here.  AR is the athlete who we thought he was: a MONSTER.

Daniel Jeremiah broke down one of his games, and he did better than the stats would lead you to think.

But we're in draft season.  There is SO MUCH BS out there.  Is he really the smartest QB in the draft?  Dunno.  But everyone is saying he killed the interviews.  So...???  Who knows.

Look, if we did end up drafting him, even if we trade up, I'd be cool with it.  Our coaches are set up to build a guy like him up.  I have no clue if it's a good idea right now.  We still have two more months of BS...

But we'll have a better idea of the Panthers' plans soon when they either trade up or sign a vet QB.

Do these numbers really mean anything for a QB?

They mean he’s explosive. Should be able to avoid sacks or get out of them.  Also has the top end speed to outrun Justin Fields so it means he’s got the wheels the make the same type of runs he was able to this year if needed.

Yes, they mean that he's a terrifying dual-threat QB.

Watch how teams defended Hurts this year - now take away his legs. They defend him entirely differently (and no doubt more effectively).

puts more pressure on opposing defenses since they have to account for the qb running ability and also helps in opening up the field more for other offensive weapons

    • Brandt's comment about Wharton was from his KC perspective when Wharton was a UDFA rookie.   "it goes back to the anecdote that Brandt Tillis had when he was in Kansas City. And it would be so easy to just cut Turk Wharton in 2020 when he was an undrafted rookie from a division two college in Missouri. It would been so easy to cut him because then he would have cleared waivers easily. No one knew this guy. They didn't have any joint practices, didn't have a preseason. Would have been so easy to cut him and bring him back on the practice squad and let him continue to build from there. And Brandt essentially said, "No, he's got to make the 53man roster if we're going to have any sort sense of credibility with this team."
    • Plenty of us were scratching our heads about that signing at the time. Especially with our 3-4 defense. Wharton is kind of a one trick pony situational five tech DT. He doesn't have the beef to hold up against the run and he doesn't have the juice to shift outside. He's basically a situational pass rusher DT. If we paid him $40M+ and he can't start for a historically inept defense then holy poo...
    • Agreed.  300 and 2 or 3 total in Jacksonville in a winning effort would sure be a nice start.
