They're Not Done Trading

Don't be surprised if DJ Moore isnt the only player traded this offseason.  Carolina is in a straightup rebuild.  Completely new staff with different needs for players.  It's getting blown up.  I would not be surprised to see Burns traded before he walks with no compensation next year.

You may be onto something.

I wouldn't be surprised if we end up trading back a spot or two and picking up some picks.  That's Fitt's style.  He's a wheeler and dealer.  If he knows the #2 or 3 won't take the guy we want, he'll trade back.

As far as players, I don't think we'll be dealing anyone else.  Premium is on QBs, Ts, Edge guys, and WRs, and out of our tradeable assets, we have Burns who would command the most in a trade, but both he, his brother, and guys around the team have already said we were working on an extension with him.  So that's not happening.

Even after we turned down multiple offers for Burns? I don't see it...

I get the impression they think this roster will be ready to plug in a rookie QB which is why they traded up for that pick. Any other trades will probably be getting rid of lower tier players for low picks.

Damn, I hope we aren’t that dumb. Look at Lawrence. I know Pederson was a huge upgrade over Meyer, but Lawrence in year 2 added a solid TE in Engram, a solid WR in Kirk and a solid RB in Etienne.

A rookie QB and the weapons we have now is not a good team yet. I’m sure I sound like a broken record but Fitterer made a huge error mot trading Burns. Trading Burns for 2 1sts and pick 36 would have been the perfect complement to this trade up. Could have gotten one of the top WRs and one of the top TEs with 36 and 39. There are no Waddles/Chases, but there are Moore type late first early 2nd WRs. There are a ton of solid TEs and it wouldn’t take much to move up a bit either.

You’d walk out of the draft with a rookie QB, WR and TE and a ton of Moore and Burns cap for D starters and have 3 more firsts in 2024/2025. In year 3 of rookie QB we’d have stud weapons and several D starters. You could even wait for 2024 to load up on D starters in FA.

Burns ain't getting traded.  Our current defensive coordinator was with the Rams when they offered two 1sts for Burns.  I'm sure Evero played a part in that, so he wouldn't like if we traded Burns now.  Heck, Burns may be a reason he decided to come here.

Still wouldn't mind trading Burns if the compensation is right. I think he could be a great player in this defense, much better than he has been previously there is definitely potential however he will be cashing in on a $100+ million deal and we've seen multiple times that players don't live up to that potential after signing those massive deals. Hopefully Burns will continue to work hard at being an elite player even after he gets his massive contract.

    • I wonder if they'd consider trading Rasheed Walker to a team that needs tackle help but missed out in the draft?
    • LOL. This is such a Panthers fan take.  Anyone who falls to us must suck because some other team didn't take them before.  We got lucky with Lemon, Thieneman, and Freeling all falling to us (honestly any of the three is a A+) but the WR and S positions are much deeper than the LT position in this draft.  We got the LT w/ the most upside at 19.  Mauigoa played RT in college and some think he is a guard in the nfl.  Spano played RT in college and some think he is a guard in the NFL due to short arms.  Blake Miller played RT in college and is not as good as Freeling.  Proctor is a true LT but his ability to handle quick edge's worries me (see Icky).  Freeling is a true LT and a gifted pass protector.  Many think he has a very high ceiling and will benefit from not having to start right away.  This is how you build a franchise.
    • After watching Cam get killed for years behind a bad Oline and having to watch the 2021 and 2023 Olines I will never complain about this team putting resources into that spot.  We got a true LT who could really push Rasheed Walker for the day 1 job. Go back and watch Iceky's draft profile from 2022 and all the talk was Ickey would be an all-pro guard in a zone blocking scheme, but he could play LT in a gap power run scheme. That's why Ickey looked really good when Wilks took over and we just started running gap run plays and just mauled people up front but under Canales we've been more of a zone running team. Ickey can survive at LT with his pass blocking but his true strength will always be his ability to just move guys in the run game and that's a skill set that's better used at guard.  Take another OT later on day 3 to learn from Moton to take over RT in a couple of years and let Walker and Freeling battle it out for the day 1 LT job then next offseason trade one of Hunt of Lewis and let Ickey move inside to guard.
